I built my PC in 2017. I upgraded my graphics card once and it's still going strong. Everybody acts like you gotta build an entirely new PC each time. And nobody considers how much money you'll save in the long run. If you had a console for 5+ years, how much money did you spend to be able to play your games online?

Now, I am a hardcore advocate of PC gaming and only had PS3 and 4 for God of War and Quantic Dream games, but I believe console gaming is BETTER.

You just turn it on, play it, no problems. However, because of the shit remains of an archaic bundles of terrible code that we call Windows 11 (or 10), PC gaming is pain. Most times I have to troubleshoot a thing or two to get the game running the way I want.

I spent 10 months trying to get LEO Island and Oblivion running on my modern ThinkPad only for a Windows update to RUIN it! It’s things like that which have turned me into a proud penguin!

I am a PC gamer and I love it, but I hate when someone says "pc gaming is superior" because it can be, but for the price of a console it just won't be better, and most likely it would be worse, and saying that something that costs more is better is dumb.
"My pc gaming machine beat the hell out of the consoles with my rtx 4070" for a machine that his sole graphics card costs more than an entire console with a premium controller and two games, well it better be.
I literally had this conversation with a pc gamer but it's about the average mentality being honest.

All very valid concerns, but hard disagree on the rankings lol. IMO it should go...

Price: Yes, the raw price-to-performance of a console easily beats that of a PC hardware-wise. But when you take into account mandatory subscriptions for multiplayer on console and frequent heavy discounts on PC (including Epic's weekly freebies!), PC takes the cake in the long run, even more so if you need to own a computer anyway for productivity or whatever else. And more so still considering repairability and upgradability!!! At worst... *Bearable*

Building: Many people enjoy the part selection and building process, actually making this a benefit, and for the rest, prebuilts are readily available, as you mentioned. *Not a problem*

Launchers: Definitely annoying, but doesn't meaningfully impact the ability to play the games you want. *Minor annoyance*

Bad ports: I'll give you that this one, when it's bad, can be pretty bad. A couple titles come to mind that force camera turning and make WASD movement kind of a chore. However, these are few and far between in my personal experience. *Bearable*

Cheaters: I don't see obvious ones too often, but when I do, it can really ruin the vibe of the whole session, and even just having to wonder so often whether that last kill was legit can put a damper in it. This is the strongest case to me for having a dedicated console. *Pretty bad*

Physical games: The decline in ownership is honestly a worrying trend that goes beyond games. In terms of a comparison, though, what % of console gamers are even still buying discs? Not to mention that modern game discs don't even contain all the game files anymore, requiring updates, and are region-locked. Anyway, GOG—while not addressing the transferability problem—at least solves the issue of licenses being pulled out from under you by selling games DRM-free. So, relatively speaking, agreed... *Minor annoyance*

Couch gaming: It does suck that PC releases often don't offer local multiplayer when their console equivalents do, but there are lots of great ones to be found out there if you take the time to look. 2.4GHz dongles tend to be much more reliable than Bluetooth so I'd go with those; sucks Xbox doesn't include one but my 8BitDo did. *Minor annoyance*

HDR: Agree that it's a pain to deal with even when it's available, but gaming in SDR still looks plenty good enough. We'll see if that changes down the line once I get a proper HDR400 OLED and get spoiled lol, but for now... *Minor annoyance*

Windows: In a vacuum, it's too bad there's not a "godawful" tier for how bloated, intrusive, ad- & spyware-ridden, and generally hostile it's become over the years. But thankfully, save for the ever-shrinking fraction of games that require it, we can mostly avoid it nowadays with Linux, which I was pleasantly surprised to see mentioned in this kind of video! Also, remember that console OSes are just as proprietary and even more locked down—forget about emulation, modding, or just using it as a general-purpose machine rather than strictly gaming. Relative to consoles, the only real downside here is the troubleshooting, but you trade so much freedom for that extra bit of convenience, so ultimately... *Minor annoyance*

Reminiscence of work: This is a very personal one, and I imagine much more relevant if you WFH, so I won't deny that it could be a big deal to some. Personally, though, that I happen to be sitting at a computer doesn't make gaming on my home PC feel anything like being at the office. As you mentioned, though, switching from a desk setup to a couch setup is a great option, if not without its faults. For myself, though—and, I'd venture to guess, most people? (CMIIW)—this one falls under... *Not a problem*

Now, with all that said, everyone has different priorities and will assign different weights to each problem, and I won't fault anyone for choosing console in addition to or instead of PC if that's what's best for them. It's good to know all your options, though, including unconventional ones, and the true pros and cons of each.

Still better than consoles. The game library of PC justifies every price tag.

I still have my old consoles. Even after steam dies, Xbox goes offline for good, PS goes offline for good, I'll still be able to play my Xbox, 360, GameCube, Vita, PSP, and Gameboy games.

I’m going to say that downloading Steam and every other game launcher right after you finished building your PC is one of the most satisfying and rewarding experiences ever. Just watching Steam download lets you know that you’ve basically done everything you needed to do to set up your PC; you made sure it boots, you made sure CPU temps are good, you installed windows, you updated all the drivers for every component including your monitor, mice, keyboard and you definitely didn’t forget to turn on XMP profile. At this point, you are happy af. If anything goes wrong you are the man who build the thing so you can troubleshoot every single aspect whether it’s hardware or software. On the other hand if something goes wrong with your console have fun waiting many days for a replacement or a fix that you can’t do yourself.
