I have been using the shared album trick since 16+ months but was totally unaware why I've 4000+ photos in my shared album and just takes few megabytes in my iCloud storage.

Also is it safe to keep it in a shared album ? as deleting an album by mistake would remove all the photos permanently (no recycle bin)

You showed how to change the cover picture of an album but is it possible to change the cover of a shared album as well? I didn’t find an option for that.

For convert photos to pdf, you can also use the share / print option. After tipping on print, pinch to zoom of the preview below. Now it’s already a pdf, you can save it or share it right away.
