I have seen many, many westerns in my lifetime and I have concluded that this opening scene and the opening scene to Once Upon A Time In The West are my apsolute favourites and possibly the greatest intros made.

I will be very sad when Clint Eastwood goes from this world, me and my old man used to religiously watch his westerns, and every soundtrack was better than the last one, Mr.Morricone was always the highest on the list of course, that was until i found about this masterpiece, this one is my favorite, that haunting melody, lonely but epic

Wish Clint do one more western with this character. Maybe, his son could play younger version, he plays dad. To me, Clint's westerns were the best and most memorable ones I watched as kid and even now.

They don't make movies like this anymore, darn shame!!! Hollywood has lost it's Creativity, and Clint Eastwood was one of the best at it!!! What an unbelievable and unforgettable trio, Sergio Leone, Ennio Morricone and Mr. Clint Eastwood!!! They new how to write Great Storylines with Great dialogue to go together with the look and feel of the movies whether it was doing Westerns or anything else that Hollywood did back then!!! What the heck has happened to them anyways, meaning Hollywood in General that Go get them Clint!!! This film is a total epic. From the opening wailing music to the 'Hell' that follows, I love it. It's a dead heat between this and "Josey Wales" as which is best.

Watched this movie when I was 14 and was captivated by the scenes in this sequence. Finally, 5 years ago I had a chance to to go there and walk to the exact location! There is nothing left of Lago except a shade of the road Eastwood rides on and little spots where the houses stood and at the end burned! The lake water level has dropped some, so you may find yourself a bit further away from the water than you see in the movie, but if you get there at the right time of the day, you can imagine Clint riding down the hill towards you!! :-)

He was in many occasions a step ahead of everyone, the only 2 things that surprised him was the sound of the bullwhip and the preacher charging the homeless people rent to stay in his dwellings.
