Great video man and you're right; play what you think sounds best for you. I have several saxes and I love them all - vintage Mark VI looks like hell with most of the lacquer gone but plays like a dream - I also enjoy playing my old Conn 10M, she's a great big sounding horn.

I have both vintage and newer models - the newer model I personally like is Yamaha. They make some nice sounding professional models, but I always keep going back to my Selmer Mark VI.

I remember many, many years ago when I back stage at the Blue Note in NYC talking with Sonny Rollins about horns and he said - 'It doesn't matter what kind of horn you play or what kind of mouthpeice you play .... It's the amout of time you put into it is what will it will sound like' and then I asked him, 'then why are you playing a vintage Mark VI with and Otto Link mouthpeice' and he laughed out loud and said 'you learn quick kid' and added the he enjoyed his Buescher Aristocrat too been friends ever since, although saddly he doesn't play much anymore - he's always been an incredible inspiration to me as a sax player and a wonderful great friend that always has a

I have to admit some of these prices for the Mark VI's are seriously out of control. I saw one up for grabs for $20, 000 .... and the ad actually said - Michael Brecker looked at this horn .... lol

Thanks again for sharing this video and all the very best to you.

Play'on my Brother ...!

That looks about right. Here in New York at Roberto's Winds in the Mark VI room they have 20 Mark VIs for $15, 000.

50’s Mark VI are dark sounding horn yet wonderful. I love the 1967 144 models and I have bought from Saxquest in St Louis Missouri and the horns are Mint and my Mark VI 144 Tenor Saxophone is coming from there to very soon 🤤🤤🤤😉

Incredible. I've got a MKVI, Alto, 56.xxx. I bought it privately for 4.500 dollars 3 years ago. It needed a little going over, which cost another 500. I think it's worth shopping around. Patience usually pays off. Does it make much difference to my playing ? Not at all.

I know the MK VI has it's fan but it's been said before the whole MK VI thing is a bit of a myth. It's widely known that there are more bad MK VI's than good ones. And this is coming from a famous player. the fact is there are far better modern saxophones out there. Bob Rockwell goes so far as to say Selmer really didn't know what they were doing because they were so inconsistent and put out a load of bad horns. Selmer today is a different story. Don't get caught up in myth and hype people. Collectors want to drive up prices.
