Woman accused of voter fraud in Wilson County

A Midstate woman faces charges of voter fraud as election integrity is top of mind.

Wilson County District Attorney Jason Lawson told FOX 17 News this sends a message to others, follow state law and vote legally or you could face serious consequences.

When you go to vote, you show your ID, your address is verified with what is in the system, and you sign a document stating everything is accurate.

In Wilson County, Erica Waterbury is accused of not following the law from when she voted in July.

A source told FOX 17 News she used another address when casting a ballot.

There’s no evidence this was anything but an error, but already everyone wants to lynch this woman - we all need to take a chill pill. Fraud is an intentional act, to deceive for an improper purpose. Let the process unfold to see what happened. Sometimes people make mistakes, and there are extenuating circumstances that would show it wasn’t fraud.

More laws will not increase compliance; they merely prescribe stiffer or different consequences than already exist. This is the same incorrect mentality surrounding gun rights. More laws will not make criminals suddenly rethink what they are doing. More laws can only impose harsher punishments or interfere with the right of law abiding citizens. Criminals will be criminals. The only thing that can prevent misdeeds would be mechanisms to increase vigilance.
