I worked thoughout the late 70s, 80s and 90s and its good to see that the spx is still doing its thing...for young engrs like yourself. Class never dies. But if you want to really check out reverb. Rev 7 is all you need.

I've been using a SPX900 for my guitar rig since the '90s. It is a multi-FX like unlimited SPX90s that can be stacked, saved, and recalled. I've always loved the sound of Yamaha equipment, from the DX7 to the PM2000 to their grand pianos.

And you're exactly right - it is a balance between new, old, tried and trusted. Sometimes I'm lucky with clients that a c-part opens the doors to "have fun" - but it always have to serve the music.

This is my favorite drum beat. I love Darude's drummer!

I add gated reverb just enough to fatten and widen the snare, without adding enough to make the snare duration sound longer. Then, I add ambience reverb to the gated reverb returns.

I think the important lesson here is that, in a world full of digital reverb options, it’s nice to have a piece of hardware that actually limits the optional parameters.

The stock Symphonic patch on bass guitar from the SPX90 is life!!!

hey ! i have a suggestion could you make a video about Sonnox inflator ? snake oil video or not, try to explain what process is behind and how to try remake a "similar" effect with saturation or waveshaper maybe. cheers

After watching this I dug out my old SPX 90 and created an external effect. It really has a place
amongst all my other reverbs. Thanks for that!

I didn't even know you could saturate reverb... I never thought of making sounds like that. Thanks again!

Got this Yamaha unit and it's still great! And I think one of the greatest digital reverbs for bass drum ever made is the Midiverb II, program one or two. It's absolute killer. :)

This is more....ahh personal, and audiophile-type teaching content. Keep doing stuff like this when you can. Great work!

You could generate a convolution impulse for the reverb you like from the SPX90 and use ReaVerb on any track.

There's tons of records lately that bring back the 80s, including the gated snare sound! Listen to the intro from She's American by The 1975.
