I remember I jailbroke my iPod Touch 4 solely to get Siri, right after the iPhone 4s was released. I followed the tutorial, but then my iPod got stuck on the Apple logo and wouldn’t reboot. Sad times as a 12 year old…

iOS wouldn’t be what it is today without Jay, and the iPhone dev team. Apple just used all their ideas.

People used to pay my bro to jailbreak their iphones or ipads, so much that he was able to afford laptops and other stuff at 12 years old, lol

My iphone 3G had more features than my 12max because of this man.

I originally studied computer science when I began college (switched to audio production about halfway through; big change, I know). I had this cybersecurity class that required us to do a semester project, but it was very open ended, so me and this one guy decided to do our project on jailbreaking. For a big chunk of my research, I jailbroke my iPhone 7 and used it for the entire semester. I helped people out on Reddit, tried different combinations of tweaks, etc etc. Our paper was very well done, and when we presented to the class, we were tied for the class’s favorite presentation of the day… the teacher failed us (56/100) without a single mark on our paper and no comments on any of it. This teacher was in bed with Silicon Valley big tech, so I’m almost certain she did it just because she didn’t like it.
Thanks for reading my story, random person on the internet. Have a wonderful day.

You never forget your first time breaking out of Apple's clutches. Thank you Saurik, redsn0w and everyone else who has contributed to the jailbreaking/opensource movement.

I used to spend hours trying to jailbreak my iPhone and even longer customizing my phone once I finally got it to work. This brings back so much nostalgia for me and on behalf of all loyal iPhone users thank you saurik for making the iPhone more than just a cellphone

my now deleted first YouTube video was about jailbreaking the iPod touch. That feels like a lifetime ago now.

Saurik is one of the kindest and most thoughtful people I’ve ever met. I owe him for so much of my success. Thank you for showcasing his impact on mobile software ❤

What really killed jailbreaking was the bounty program. Why give up an exploit for free when you get paid 5 figures for reporting it to Apple.

I remember installing cydia on my iphone 3GS, and I used to get so many questions on how I made my iphone look different! Fun times

It’s a very sad truth but you are 1000% right. I loved jailbreaking so much I named my daughter “Cydia”.

cydia is not dead, it's still going strong but a lot more underground now since it takes a bit more time to crack current devices with a lot more hurdles.

I loved Cydia and the jailbreak community. I only had iPhone because of them. I was able to turn an iPad touch into an iPhone thanks to Cydia and a special case. I still have on my channel old jailbroken awesomeness. Had real Bluetooth, awesome customized themes and tweaks. Thank you for all you did Mr. Freeman! And to all that made the jailbreak possible, I used every single tool through the years! ❤

I miss the days of early jailbreaking. Everything felt fresh and exciting, same as the early days of PSP cfw's. I learned so much in that time because it felt like the door to endless possibilities. Now everything tech wise feels kind of bland. Sure, we have AI now, we have phones capable of incredible tasks but I can't help but miss those old days.

I used to jailbreak back in the iPhone 4/5 days it was fun while it lasted, with recent developments to iOS you dont really need tp jailbreak anymore, but if you think about it, apple just stole ideas from old school tweaks and presents them as new and revolutionary? customization? weve had that for years but iOS 18 is 'revolutionary'

Jailbreaking died for me around 2015-2016.. I just stopped hearing about it anymore and found increasingly little reason to Jailbreak as time went on. Now I know why. Thanks for this video, Arthur.
