THIS Is The HARDEST Cycling Climb In The World!

10km at an average gradient of 18% with a maximum of 40%... and throw in some cobbles for good measure! The Pozza San Glisente may not quite reach the same mind-boggling 48% ramps of the Scanuppia, but it’s longer and even more relentless. So, naturally, we sent Ollie to Italy to take it on and find out just how hard this epic climb really is!

Absolutely loving Ollie’s new hiking special.

It's always great when the camera crew troll Ollie by only filming him pushing the bike. Looking forward to seeing Andrew Feather conquering the climb.

Well Ollie, now its time to travel to Hawaii and give Mauna Kea (from Hilo) a try. 68 km of pure climbing. I have done it, its not the gradients - its the length, the many hours of climbing and the altitude going from 0 meters above sea level to 4200 meters. Lets go!

Well done, Ollie! I'm one of the "lucky" Strava riders that has completed this devastating climb. I did it in Aug 2015 on a 15Kg 26" MTB with rim brakes. I have had the KOM for ~3 years, must have been the lowest speed KOM ever (a ridiculously slow pace, 3, 7 km/h). The video of the full descent is on YouTube (I have not yet uploaded the ascent videos). Cheers!

That road is so beautifully scenic. Would be fun to just walk it. Nice to know places like this exist.

I freaking love Ollie! Great commentary, relatable to most of us as cyclists, but still such a stud taking on these climbs.

I live in Bulgaria. Here we have the highest dam in the Balkans. Kalin dam. The climb is around 15km and 12% avg. Very similar surface to this one. Your video reminded me of my climb to Kalin. I also did it with slightly modified MTB. What is different however, is the rewarding view on the top. It is staggering. You are welcome to visit, I can take you there ;)

We've a local hill which on Strava comes out to a 4.8% grade, and I feel like a champion every time I complete it. It takes about 2 minutes or less. I can't even imagine doing this!

“Can’t you film the bits where I pedal, I mean I’m rubbish but not this rubbish. “ 😂😂😂 best quote ever

You should’ve let guys from GMBN conquer this climb - they got way better fitting rubber and gearing for such roads

The struggle here is actually quite motivating, usually any films with hills just show someone cruising up talking about the view and that's good and all but to know everyone isn't always amazing is reassuring

Great Video! You all rock! Especially when it's a real video of you all struggling with something. Keeps everyone humble.

P.S. @2:10min had me laughing so hard I spit water everywhere. That dead stare. Yep. You're probably right!!

Great work!

I would love @gcn and @gmbn to see a challenge on these types of climbs between a hardtail (or rigid) mountain bike and a road bike. I'd be interested if the gearing, the tire widths and the positioning on the bike plays any difference.

I give all the GCN likes. Y'alll do a great job and gave fun in the process. I want to see you return to this climb on the right bike!

So... it's been 10 months, the video has 27 thousand likes. Where is the sequel with Feather? Come on GCN, we crave this content!

"It's just not the bike for the job...."
"I just don't have the right gears..."
"You can't weave across the road"
"It looks like it was last tarmaced in roman times..."

Or just perhaps "I'm not strong enough to ride this all the yet."
RULE #5 :D
Great efforts though, never give up.

I'd really like you to post the gear ratios you have when you do these climbs. I know most of the time you have much harder gears than me.

I used to live in a house on a pretty extreme gradient like the ones you encounter at 6:45. It was awesome to commute by bike. in the morning, fly downhill and arrive at work with a smile on my face. In the afternoon, exercise is guaranteed, as well as enough sweat that you HAVE to take a shower. That guarantees a fresh mind for the evening aswell. It's awesome, can't recommend it enough for anybody who likes a challenge.
