I know this is a real old video now but I have to say I have made the Butterick 6018 dress twice now and love how it fits and flares out. I'd love to find the original and make that up too to see how it compares though!

I remember Angela Clayton talking about a size 20 vintage pattern, that had a 36" bust. Then a 36" bust became a size 16 and now is a size ???. Fundamentally, you have to ignore the size, and look at the measurements, especially of the finished garment. I sewed a child's size 12-14 costume pattern, that was really for a 6-8 year old.

I totally buy pattern duplicates!! Also, yes: of course caftans can be chic!! I’ll take a caftan any day of the week, lol. Hey — if you make Simplicity 1059, you can totally skip the zipper. There’s just no need for it - it easily slips over your head. I really hated the facing treatment on that dress but it’s a very cute dress. Thanks for mentioning me!😄Rabid 60’s/vintage fan that I am, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your collection.

I think you'll find McCall's 5029 is early Sixties, maybe late Fifties at the earliest. The boxy jacket is a dead giveaway. Love seeing your vintage stash, I have a big one of my own and am hoping to figure out how to adapt them to my figure. Many muslins in my future.

I just made a size 16 dress from 1940, which is probably about a size 4 today. Just curious, when they bring back a pattern, I imagine they must have it in today's sizing. I enjoy collecting vintage patterns from the early half of the 1900's. The styling is much more detailed in the tailoring.

If you would like to know how to put in a zipper really easy, watch joy Bernhardt. She taught me how to do a perfect zipper! After you do one of hers you’ll wonder why you were so tentative!
