In this video I'm going to talk about something that I already did to the car, and that is the famous foamectomy! What you do is you take some foam out of the seat so you can sit lower and further back in the seat. A complete guide on how to do a foamectomy the right way!

Things you will need:
» Socket wrench
» 12mm socket
» 14mm socket
» Pincers
» Pliers
» Sharp knife
» Zip ties
» Foam (optional)

Dear gearheads, my apologies for the sound quality! When I was editing the footage I discovered that the mic of the GoPro has issues.. Apparently it's a known problem with GoPro camera's.. I still hope you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!

I bought MX5 today, I'm 6'4 (194cm) tall. If you are not sure if you will fit inside being a tall guy - yes you will! I loved this car after the first turn it's just unbelievable fun to drive!

Tiny garage but I love how organized it is. Tall guys, small Miatas.

"Don't be dumb like me". This is basically the entire premise of my YouTube channel. Good video.

Excellent video, great idea to avoid disassembly of the entire seat.

Well done, thanks! I even liked the music (normally not a big fan of the music in YT vids). I typed in "miata seat mod" and this vid was at the top of the list. All very cool.

I have long known that Miata is the right choice in so many ways, when choosing a small sports car for the real world of public roads, speed limits, and financial limits. For the track, add a turbo if you must. But like you, I am tall and my legs are very long. I just don't fit comfortably and can't see out as well as I should. The foamectomy gives me hope that I can finally enjoy Miata goodness.

It would be a lot more work, but to really do this perfectly, it might be worthwhile to construct a simple hot wire cutter with shaped wooden blocks for a precise and consistent cut across the whole surface.

Man I was thinking that with all of these rage comic faces this video would have been made circa 2012. I was amazed to see this was made only 7 years ago.

This is a pretty great and comprehensive video. Normally, I never liked the rage comics/rage face meme, but the one you pulled when you said "haggard" at 14:33 made me laugh.

Thanks dude for your video! I just bought a miata a week ago and since i am fairly tall dude (190) foamectomy seemed to be the first important mod to do. And thanks to you i did not ruin the seat, but instead i did it nicely and neatly. And it took me altogether about half an hour. Thanks!

Well done. Thanks for the tips. I suggest trying an electric meat carving knife -- the reciprocating blades make a clean smooth cut, with minimal effort. I like the idea of keeping and marking foam.

I have been meaning to do this for a while and now that I have such a nice video to follow I probably will do it :) Thanks.

To cut the foam I used an old long meat cuting knife that I heated up until the metal became blue. It cuted it like butter without making a mess. But protect ur lungs from the fumes
