As for now Genshin in-game lore feels weak (the amount time i yawn and the fact they keep blaming the Fatui for everything) but the manga tho pretty good.

Meanwhile Honkai, it starts of pretty weak as well but damn it gets better.. for me a good story is when ur heart starts to pump and get goosebumps from excitement :v

As a dude who played both games, I can say Honkai for now since Genshin haven't going on too deep yet and is actually focusing on more regions but still lore, meanwhile Honkai on the other hand is released last 4 years so they have their lore pretty much bundle up

as a writer, i can say that the main weakness of genshin's writing is that there isn't much effort or impact placed in characterization, as well as their bearing in the story. more often than not, the characters only have a one-off part in the plot and then disappear afterwards, so you can't really be invested in them with that short window of time.

honkai makes an effort (especially in recent updates) to cement new characters into the story or introduce them with limited-time events. seele as starchasm nyx, hua as sentience, kiana as flamescion, even mobius and elysia, each and every one have significance in the storyline and you're invested in them even before you can pull for them.

genshin's writing ends up being so weak that even artifact descriptions manage to have more interesting stories than the main story. in addition, there aren't much stakes yet. no one is really at risk of dying. no one needs to be saved. no one is going through anguish and despair. it ends up being a lighthearted fantasy adventure, and lacks depth compared to honkai as a result.

I started Honkai recently, and I have put almost all of my focus on the story. I am currently on chapter 22. chapter 20 was one of the most deep and emotional I have ever seen, and I don't think genshin can get to that level.

Genshin's world quests have more darker and emotional stuff than the archon quests. I would have really wanted that tsurumi's quest was more animated and even voice acted.

Genshin does have good lore. But the problem with Genshin’s story is that it’s just so much more damn complicated and feels a little more tedious to understand. Plus, Honkai isn’t just written better, it’s also shown better through emotionally impacting moments or cutscenes like “Will of the Herrscher”, or Himeko’s death which no Honkai fan will ever get over in their lives, or FUCKING “EVERLASTING FLAMES”.

Also we don’t talk about Houkai, that’s a rabbit hole I don’t wanna go down and I don’t think we can anyway now that it’s been shut down.

I honestly think Genshin's lore is really underrated. Sure, the storyline is kinda eh at times, but that goes the same with Honkai with some being at the start of the story, and some of the filler chapters like ch 18-19. Don't get me wrong, Honkai's storyline is goddamn great, and the lore is really vast since we have the imaginary tree, bubble universes, the will of honkai, the entity that su met after he disappeared in the second divine key, the sky people etc. but that doesn't make Genshin's lore look bad. The backstory of most of the things in Teyvat is hidden on a lot of books, texts, runes, murals, and world quests; which makes it really hard to judge the storyline of Genshin for people that doesn't really like reading, but one you dug in it, the contents makes it a goldmine for a lot of theories regarding the world of Teyvat, and probably trying to uncover the mysteries of the world itself. Genshin's main quest is still at its starting point, so we're still at a surface level of world-building, but slowly but surely the mysteries of Teyvat will unravel as the story progresses.

actually genshin story is quite dark, unfortunately world quests like childish jiang or a man who sings every night for his dead daughter in the grave behind mondstadt are not the main quests. also lore are scattered in books and artifact descriptions, which people rarely read all about. but seeing the last chasm update I'm sure genshin story will be darker in some next updates.

it seems as if people are really starting to forget that Genshin Impact is open world and we are called travelers for a reason, lore is scattered everywhere and that's one of the many reasons why we have to explore the world.

A more accurate title is probably "Genshin Story vs Honkai Story" because if you really look for them, the lore for both franchises are both depressing
