Body language experts such as Joe Navarro and the Behavior Panel say that a person looking up to their right is not a definitive sign of lying, but a sign that the could be creating visual images, which might simply mean they’re trying to dredge up and rearrange a half-forgotten memory, before they fully recollect the actual memory, which then prompts the eyes to slide over to the visual memory side.

A little constructive criticism: if you’re going to “burn in” captions, you should edit them so they’re accurate. Many people (like me!) read them because it’s difficult to hear when people are talking fast, in echo-ey environments or mumbling a bit. Many of the (apparently auto-generated) captions in this video make no sense, forcing the reader to have to rewind and try to ignore them while listening intently to hear what the speaker was actually saying. Thanks

Why you’d try or want to mature a child into adulthood quickly is perverse. Problem solving and value of money, yes— but the drive to even say / want to move children into adulthood like that needs to be examined within YOU! I’m glad the panel spoke up for children.

The guy has the 'right" idea about looking up, but he botched the "look up to the right" vs "look up to the left" thing. There's two major problems.

First, you MUST establish the baseline for the person's dominant thinking strategy for if they are left or right dominant in how they access remembered vs constructed thoughts. If you haven't established an accurate baseline, but then try to make accurate judgments you'll be wrong a lot of the time.

Simultaneously, and this is super important, you have to assess if they primarily think in pictures (looking up), sounds/voices (looking sideways), "gut feel" or "gut check" (looking down to the left or right), and talking to themselves (looking down to the left or right).

WARNING: there's no down and to the left/right for remembered vs constructed things. They either / or look down to the left or right for a gut check OR they look down and to the left or right for talking to themselves. It is black and white, one or the other.

Finally, looking straight down is a them being decisive or conclusive.

Second, when you've identified their "constructed" vs "remembered" strategy you CANNOT just assume that when they use their constructed memory strategy that they're lying. They may be trying to piece something together that includes truth in it. It is just a signal to pay closer attention until you're certain that they're constructing a memory or that they know most of it, but have to guess at the rest.

Establish the Baseline.

What you start with is to ask them obvious things that YOU know and THEY know are 100% true about them or about the world. Then watch them manifest their strategy as being left or right dominant. When you have figured out their "baseline" left or right strategy you're just beginning.

Test it. You do this by occasionally cycling back to something that you know and they know is 100% true and accurate about the past.

The question at stake is if they are remembering a past actual event vs constructing something that never happened.

CIA-trained humans can beat this. One way to beat it is to learn how to how operate or manifest your words from the "talking to myself" modality. In this way you can be telling people a complete lie, but you'll alwys be looking down to the left or right.

Sociopaths can also beat this because their wiring / conditioning is that they can craft a fully constructed and false reality and BELIEVE it is true. Bill Clinton, among other politicians, preachers, and such, is a great study in this regard. He (or they) believes his lies.
