1 Corinthians 13: Why Love Matters | Paul D. Gardner

1 Corinthians 13 describes love as a way of life, lived in imitation of Jesus Christ, that is focused not on oneself but on the “other” and his or her good.

Love is about action, how a person lives for the Lord and obeys him and how a person lives for others and serves them.

Yet it is also about being. This is because its foundation is in God who is love, and in Christ who shows that love.

This is a passage about how God loves. This is how Jesus loves us in his perfection. The same way he could walk the tight rope of the law and none of us can.
This is what we can aspire to: to love each other like Jesus. It’s really important to try, but we can’t shame ourselves because we can’t do it perfectly. We’re not perfect.
With all my heart I wish to lead my family and love my wife this way. I feel like I fail most every day, but I pray for help. I pray for us all

The love the passage is referring to is our knowing He loves US.

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (January 30, Epiphany 4), this was our New Testament Lesson of the Day. Some thoughts: You could scratch out love and write "Jesus" in its place.
