Definitely want a few gaps in the first row as air intakes. The airflow will then come from the bottom and make the smoke go straight up. Without them, the smoke will be chasing you around.

I have a short section (10 ft wide) of hill that has rocks constantly falling onto my lawn. It would be nice to see how I can build a small 2-3 ft high retaining wall to keep the rocks from sliding onto the lawn.

What's the best method to clean it out?

1) elevate your firepit just a little so it doesn't turn into a mud pit
2) Leave a couple gaps in the first layer - this way your fire can breathe and won't smoke nearly as much - it also allows a place for water run -off
3) I wonder hos that glue holds up with the heat?
