The Death Of Ramesses III

The death of Ramesses III and the trial and punishment of those involved is one of the most fascinating documents to have survived from ancient Egypt. It gives us an insight into their politics and law that is far more interesting than your average courtroom drama.

You can read it for yourself below.

There's another cool egyptian court drama that survived, the account of some tomb robbers caught while fencing the goods. It goes through all the officials they bribed and how they carried out their operation.

This *is* my daytime television. Next up, corruption scandal during the building of the Great Pyramid. :) (Yes, there was one.)

I'd love to see a version of this in the same wacky style as The Death of Stalin.

I recollect having heard somewhere that most of the conspirators had their bodies ritually destroyed -- ultimately being ground up on roads -- for exactly the same reasons that Egyptians went to great lengths to preserve the bodies of those they wished to enjoy the afterlife.

This is fascinating. I remember reading somewhere that ancient Egyptian laws were VERY strict and the punishments were VERY brutal. Apparently, that’s why ancient Egypt was able to stay relatively peaceful. Because not many people dared to commit crimes.

The Harem Conspiracy is one of the most intriguing assassinations in History and has always fascinated me. Would certainly make an excellent TV miniseries or a movie.

From American daytime courtroom dramas to ancient Egypt seamlessly. Good work!

As horrific as death by burning is, it may have been especially nightmarish in ancient Egypt where the dead normally had their intact bodies embalmed as mummies, which was next to impossible to do properly on a burned body.

I am so happy I discover you channel and to see this video! You're doing a great job and I am very inspired by your work (I am writing video for a french channel ^^)
I discovered this conspiracy when I was very young because of 2 novels written by Pauline Gedge, house of dreams and house of illusions. I didn't know at first it was inspired by real events, but was hooked by the trial at the end of the second book and looked it up. It is of course romanticized, but it is one of my favorite books and I read them every year.
It would be so cool if a tv show about that event (or any historical events in ancient egypt really) could be produced...
