Always remember, we never roll 0, as there is no point. D100 is percentile. 00 + 0 is 100, any other numbers than 00 + any other number above 0, you add. If you get 00 and any number between 1 to 9, it is 0 + (1 to 9)

I would also add that historically, your second demonstration of d100 (two differently-coloured dice) predates the introduction of the 00-90 die. I would argue that the different colours approach shows how things are actually working better than the 00-90 die. The key things is generating an integer (single digit), then placing it in it's place in the result - tens and units as you said.

What seems to get people confused is the instinct to add the numbers together, instead of place them side by side.

I also think it's interesting to note that the reason a 0 on a d10 is read as 10 is the same reason a 00&0 is read as 100. The only positive number from 1-10 with a 0 in the units field is 10. Similarly, the only positive number from 1-100 with a 0 in the units field and a 0 in the tens field is 100.

Thank you so much for helping me not letting my table kill each other about a d100

Thank you! I just bought The Rogue Trader rpg series on Humble Bundle and am teaching myself the d10 system!!

Thanks so much for this, this is exactly what I was looking for, trying to rap my head around percentile dice

Why not a 90 and 10 is 100? Wouldn’t that make more since? And 00 means zero and you wouldn’t have to change what numbers mean in certain instances..

00-90 + 1-10 works just as well as 0-9 & 0-9. You just need to be clear which system is being used. Personally I don't like 0-9&0-9 because when you roll the first digit that should indicate ballpark of how good your roll was, but with 0-9&0-9 you won't know if you got a 1 or a 100 until rolling the second dice, which is silly.

The way I learned 0 is 10. So 70 + 7 is 77. But 70 + 0 would be 80. 00 + 8 would be 8. 00 + 0 would be 10 not 100. So how would you ever roll 100? Easy, 90 and 0.

So if I roll a 00 + What ever number (lets say 7), does that mean 107?

Can you get a 1? Or any single digit number on a d100 roll with percentile dice?

I like the short info pieces. That's great. I'm sure that's helpful for someone who hasn't messed around too much with 10 sided dice.

Wouldn't a 10 (d100) + 0 (d10) = 20?

"The point is, you can never get a zero." Actually, that depends on the game system. Ars Magica, for example uses d10s exclusively, in most situations a 0 is read as 10, but in certain situations (stressful for example), the rules change, and the 0 is read as zero. Using d10s instead of the random number generator in the Lone Wolf solo gamebooks, has 00 mean zero. A result of 10 is never generated.

Just for your information.

I know this is ancient and this comment will probably drown... but is the case with ones & 100s the same if we have to roll two d100s? ( a drawing challenge wants me to roll two d100s and I'm not sure how to read them. I got a 20 & a 30 - so did I get a 23?)

Thanks for the video - the other scenario I wanted to check with the percentile dice is how to read 00 + any other single digit 1 to 9 (understanding that 0 would make that role 100). in the scenario of 00 + 7, that is a just 7 - correct? I'm certain this is how to read it, though i've yet to see this explicitly stated. Thanks

When you roll just one d10 the 0 is 10. When you roll the d10 and the d10-100 the d10 is read at face value, where the single digit 0 is now zero. If you roll 1-9 and 00, the 00 is now zero.

So 00 and 06 is not 106? I dont understand.

If theres no zero, and you’ve rolled a 70 on the percentile die, then proceed to roll a ten on the regular D10. Would that not be 80?
If not the entire idea of never rolling a zero is completely incorrect since the 0, or the 10 i should say does in fact turn to zero when you rounded down.
Am i trippin?
