Very true, Valentines day should be for singles, every 'holiday' has become too commercialised.
Rather than buying flowers which only last a few days, buy a plant (house or garden) that will last much longer as a reminder of your love.
Even a gift for your loved one to keep.

All holidays are now about companies capitalizing off of products being sold particularly at that time of year. Now that, like Gary mentions, it's an expectation, it doesn't have the same meaning. Random acts of kindness are the true ways of finding appreciation in your surroundings.
