Apocrypha Teach & Play

Join @Pawlom21 and @boardgamerpinup teaching and playing board games on Monday nights. This week we attempt to clear up some rule confusions, and try to ease new players into the game Apocrypha, by Mike Selinker, and published by Lone Shark Games. Apocrypha has been on my List of Shame for a year, been avoiding it as I found the rule book unclear and heard there was a 3 hour video but didn't feel like committing that much time to watching a video. Then today I worked my way through the intro mission with the rule book and LSG video. Once I finished I pulled this video up to see what I missed / did wrong. This video was super helfull, thank you!!

THANK YOU!!! After watching the instructional videos from LSG, I was still rather lost on what everything meant/did. Thanks to this video, I was able to go halfway through an individual campaign. (I’m certain that I messed some things up, but nothing like it would have been had I not seen this play through!!) Most every question I had, prior to watching this, was not only answered, but thoroughly explained. You did a fantastic job in explaining the 5W’s; who, what, when, where, and why.

As I played, I found it helpful, when I reached those same or similar checkpoints, to scroll through the different turns to ensure I was doing things correctly. I found the multi table view to be the most helpful!! The up close card shots and table view made it easy to follow and learn.

So thanks again for taking the time to make this!

Thank you for taking the time to put this together. The explanation is very clear and it has helped me to learn the game more effectively than the "Enter Here" videos. I do have the advantage of having played PACG which helps quite a bit.

I have to tell you. It is so refreshing how positive you guys are. Especially Michael in the BGG forums. This video is great 👍🏽. I super wished Selinker went with a long format video or hired Rodney or another professional to really teach the game via a video properly. This video is great but would have been more helpful specifically to our game group when I was first trying to bring it to the table. We figured it out and have played 3 missions (not counting my practice mission with my friend in a 2 player rules learning game). I am still watching your video because I do like the game and want to see it played to verify we did not miss anything! Thanks for this video and your positivity!!!

I agree with Mandy at 1:06:10 - this is the best explanation of this game I've seen so far. Good job. It'll definitely help when we start playing the game. But also I can see that this is the type of game that is much more enjoyable if you have someone else who is willing to manage the game. My wife is totally into the theme, but wouldn't have an ounce of patience with the rules and the symbols and parsing the different states etc. I'm ok with that stuff, so I'll manage the game, and she'll enjoy it a lot more.

Btw Michael, have a question for you regarding one of the cards, Streetsweeper, rage card, illustration is hands holding a launcher, so first it has Assemble with arrows pointing up and down(everyone a the nexus) vs. a threat - Slot: while slotted
- Assemble(everyone at the nexus) vs. a threat: active player adds 1 rage die
- End: discard this gift.
So first question is, this card activates in a certain Assemble stage, do you have the bonus die right away at that stage after you slot the card or you need to wait next threat card in order to use it?
Another question is, usually there is a position sign besides a phase of the turn, but here besides End there is no sign, does that mean on the next End phase the card is discarded, since usually there would be active player symbol and then End? Thanks for the hard work, much appreciated, in case anything else comes to my mind will drop it here so other ppl could also see it.
