Agreed, reasonable danger for sons and having them fight for a place in the world is essential. I'm 6'1, 230 lbs, and I scare people...and I'm inwardly afraid of conflict, because my mom fought all my battles for me. I resent that part of her because her overprotection deprived me of the chance to struggle and overcome my own shortcomings...and now I can't even afford the added expense of a martial arts class and I generally don't leave my inner city apartment outside of work and groceries because the people around me scare me.

If you lost a child, you would not be able to say these words the way you did. Even if you had many of kids, your mouth would refuse to formulate this., if you lost one.
