A few little additions on the historical elements:
1) "let them eat cake" was originally said by a french princess in response to reports of hunger striken commoners (NOT marie antoinette) and in the original french meant the crust and dough trimmings of a kind of meat pie which were cheap and actually make sense, yknow, in a completely out of touch way. this was then recounted by jj rousseau, long before the french revolution.
2) the death of marie antoinette did NOT start the french revolution. the french revolution was already well underway when the royal family was arrested and the adult members sentenced to death, which marked the escalation of violence of the revolutionary process (it wasn't rainbows and roses before that, but it did turn into more or less state sanctioned massacre of nobles, clergy and commoners after that).
this was brought to you by a person who went through the french school system and was forcefed anything to do with the french revolution 🦆

Part of the reason that Hailey girl got such backlash is she's made a name from being 'relatable'. If you go to any of her shorts here on YouTube, you'll see so many 'she's the most relatable influencer' type comments. It always drove me crazy because there is almost nothing relatable about her and her lifestyle. It's insane that society is always trying to find the 'relatability' of people we give our attention to.

If people changed the term Influencer for SALES PERSON, everyone would be much better steered and informed.

Regarding to people asking famous people about Palestine, I do agree that people should be putting more pressure on politicians to actually do something about it. However, I see why people are constantly asking celebrities and influencers. I think I saw a TikTok that said smth about Ariana Grande reposting a fundraiser for PCRF on her story and then in the next hour it got $80k more donations. 40k from her and then 40k from fans.

Like, I agree that we should be adding this type of heat and fire on politicians. Politicians are the direct source to get things done, but we can't ignore how much influence celebrities and influencers have on people.

I wish you mention the real reason why people were going on a blockout... It’s not just "wealth disparity"

“i don’t understand why we are so unconditionally loving towards male influencers and why we’re so callous towards women influencers” yeah it’s misogyny obviously

this is why it’s bothered me so much when people ask Markiplier or other influencers/youtubers to talk about Palestine. Obviously it’s an extremely important topic but you shouldn’t be relying on a YouTuber or TikToker to give you information regarding the war and if you need internet celebrities to tell you what to believe then you clearly don’t have a strong sense of morality or sense of self.

What triggered me the most with Hayley Baylee was the fact that the same day the Met Gala was happening, Isn'treal bombarded a refugee camp in Rafah where it was supposedly safe, also that there was a protest next to the event about 🍉and no one talks about it. It is disappointing that people who have more than 9 million followers can't speak about what is happening even a simple post about it can make a difference, at least I don't want them to tell what to believe in, I want them to speak up because they have a platform that can reach more people faster, and I know that there are influencers and content creators that are doing it but again, is frustrating that there are happening differents g*noc*d*s and they are living their best life.
I disagree with deinstalling Tiktok because it has been one of the primary resources to show what is happening on the other side of the world, the AIPAC lobby isn not working as it used to because people are watching what is happening in real time.

I really don't think ppl are trying to make celebrities their "moral compass", more that they'd like for them to be more self aware. Also "influencers/celebrities aren't obligated to talk about political issues" is a moot point. It's been proved time and time again that when celebrities or influencers spoke up about something it has had a significant impact (ex: Taylor Swift with the Biden elections, Arianna Grande recently with donations to children in Palestine), that's why it's important. They're not obliged to talk about them, but when there's such pressing issues in the world which are escalating by the day and people frankly can't ignore anymore... Keeping quiet becomes a statement in itself. That's just how it is. It's especially frustrating when some artists for ex claim to be activists and outspoken and then go radio silent when ppl ask them to talk about let's say Palestine (ex Harry Styles who waved a Ukrainian flag at a concert but then for Palestine says something along the lines of he's not political, not saying that he said that he's an activist but it's a fitting example). You also don't need to be an expert to talk about certain things or hell even just share a donation link. People don't need celebrities/influencers as a moral compass, they already have one. They'd like for those people to show theirs in times of need. I enjoyed this video regardless of not fully agreeing with it :)

people forget that the real men behind all the poverty, injustice and wars are hiding in their mansion, enjoying their anonimity!! i get people wanna feel better about themselves by calling out influencers and youtubers, but lets be objective, that will never be enough to end all the injustice in the world.

while I love Salems content, and I do agree with a lot of what’s being said, I think something many people who talk about this are missing is that when we want influencers and celebrities to speak up about these things, it’s not because we want them to be our moral compass, it’s because the amount of people they have reach to is a million times greater than the average online advocate. I’ve never once expected a celebrity to speak on behalf of the oppressed, I don’t even really like celebrities or follow them at all, but the point of people who are doing the blocking spree is because we are frustrated that these people, with all their money and all their, well, INFLUENCE, could inform more people, as there are still so many average people that don’t even know that this is happening. Ariana Grande for example, didn’t make a post, didn’t make a speech, as we are not expecting her or any celebrity to, all she did was post a link in her story for donations to a family in Gaza, and they raised thousands more by the DAY than a small, average joe posting it would have. It’s not about looking to celebrities for guidance, it’s about reach.

Honestly this entire video just reminds me of this quote by Kimberly Nicole Foster: “We are socialized to side with power, to protect power, and sympathize with power because we feel like one day we might be power.”

Not a genocide being watered down to simply misogeny 😭😭😭🙏

yes salem, it is deep, wanting celebs to mention a genocide is deep. its not about using them as a "moral compass" but its about tyring to help humanity. im disappointed you instead mentioned sexism instead of the actual problem of why the blockout started or why shes getting hate in the first place

while i normally enjoy and agree with a lot of your videos, im alarmed at how flawlessly you missed every single mark with this one. its quite insane actually.

No one is expecting a history lesson from them. Just share a few gofundmes for visibility. Also, people are allowed to want to know if their favourite influencer or celebrity supports Israel or not, to know if they’re racist or not, to know if they’re sexist or not etc. Atp you don’t know where those who stayed silent stand so supporting them can be tricky

"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity." can pretty much sum up influencer drama like this "let them eat cake" drama. People really overestimate the intelligence and awareness of Influencers when they are just as stupid and fallible as the rest of us.

all eyes on rafah. palestine should be the center of this conversation and attention. they need our help especially from the people with the biggest platforms. people have been changing lives day by day just from posting one video to raise money for families to evacuate.
