Hey everyone! Today, I'm diving into the world of Rayman Legends, starting with the weekly challenge from 8/11/2024—a 300-meter sprint. I've been a pro gamer in Sonic games, but now I'm expanding my horizons and learning tricks to start speedrunning other iconic franchises that shaped Gen Z's childhood. This, of course, includes me! Earlier today, I discovered a crucial technique in Rayman Legends: momentum conservation. For those familiar with Rayman Origins and Legends, you might have noticed that when you press the attack button while running, Rayman (or any other character) performs a spin attack. If you jump right after the spin attack, you can gain more speed than from just running or attacking alone. This trick is particularly noticeable in normal levels where speed isn't capped, unlike the music stages. For those new to this, try doing a spin attack followed by a jump to see the speed boost. For more experienced players, here's a tip: go to the first level and try this out. After the spin attack and jump, hold down on the joystick while in mid-air, and as soon as you hit the ground, jump again. Your character should roll into a ball, preserving that precious momentum. I've dubbed this trick "Spin Attack Momentum Conservation" (SAMC for short). It might already have a name in the community, but that's what I'm calling it for now.SAMC isn't the only trick in the book, but it's a great starting point. Once you're comfortable with SAMC, you can even take the speed you gain from slopes or bouncers into it, as long as you execute the joystick and jump button combo. I'm still in the early stages of learning speedrunning tricks, but I can already feel myself improving. My goal is to eventually earn a Platinum Cup—the highest trophy in the challenges section of Rayman Legends, awarded to top-ranking players. Once I've mastered all the tricks, I'll start practicing full Rayman Legends speedruns. I'm aiming for a solid run—maybe not 100% because school is starting soon—but I'll aim for around 2 hours, with both edited and unedited versions for you to enjoy. Stay tuned, and let's see how far I can go with this! Peace.
