We are splitting hairs : whether jurists agree or not on the term 'occupation', the fact is that imposing a blockade (which is objectively considered an act of war in international law and customs) against a civilian population is a massive and systematic human rights violation, a collective form of punishment. It is therefore a crime against humanity and also violates all that the Geneva Conventions stands for (this kind of blockade, all knowingly, causes suffering and even death to the weakest and most innocent within a civilian population). -- I have an MA in international relations because I had developed a passion and expertise about the blockade of Iraq (1990-2003) and the massive suffering, death and despair that it caused onto the most innocent people in Iraq (young children and the elderly died en masse under such conditions).

The blockade of Iraq teaches a clear lesson : humanitarian aid can never come close to compensating for the massive loss of an economy and the suffering caused. Blockading an entire population causes a breakdown of the civilian infrastructure to maintain life. Blockades also do not reach any positive political goal or change. Logically, Israel does not really want regime change in Gaza: its actions keep the government and people stuck. The only possible reaction is some people committing suicide and sometimes lashing back against Israel: which everyone knows thereafter serves Israeli propaganda.
