I very much appreciate the bits of silence you leave into the video. It allows me to be more conscious of the presence we're in.

I know this format doesn't bring you views but thanks for doing them, this is pure gold reflexive value!

I've been teaching writing (as a university prof) for nearly 20 years . . . and I *STILL* face these internalized feelings of self-criticism and judgement and punishment and so on literally *EVERY* time I sit down to write. It would be nice to believe that overcoming such feelings and fears could be as simple as you make it out to be. I don't mean this in any ugly way; I am truly hoping that I might be able to quiet the voices someday.

I love how very Thoth these messages were. I know exactly what you mean. We’ve lost access to our true selves, our inner nature, and ultimately to that primordial reservoir of creative flow, as a result of living in the rigid egoic structures of the modern world.

Self compassion and understanding is the antidote to get back there

I went through a tough time while dealing with personal things a few months ago, but mindfulness really helped me. Sometimes we get caught up in trivial things and it can be difficult to achieve mindfulness. I've personally struggled to maintain it. I just want to say thank you for bringing attention to it and the beauty that exists beyond our limiting thoughts.

I love that Internet Connection fail story. I think that this is Not coincidence and as a storyteller I love how These incidents bring stories into our own lives that touch us if we observe and cherish them and so they bring more depth and thankfulness into our lives and give us a feeling of being connected to something greater that miraculously and inexplicably cares about us little human beings.

Thanks. A few months back I got frustrated with my procrastination. I started therapy, began working on the Artist's Way, removed as much unhealthy tech things from my life etc. The goal I set for myself was just "do one healthy thing for my mind each day". No matter the hour, the scale, what it is. Is it creating something? Reading a book? As long as I feel it's trully good for me, my day is successful.

What you're saying about clocks is true. It's easy to hold yourself accountable for writing/making art each day for a certain amount of time. But it shouldn't really work this way. I noticed that some days you drain your creative energy in 5 minutes, and sometimes in 8 hours. It's really bad to set yourself a certain block of time, because then you're just overthinking it.

It's, in my opinion, the most important thought in this video. And not enough people are talking about it.

Your words remind me of the asceticism and fasting put into practice by Orthodox Christians. It all starts with what we put into our senses. We are what we consume. Great video as always Tyler!

Overall, thank you for taking a bit to share your thoughts on this. Authors and writers sharing their own fears and confidences is always helpful to me. It brings me some additional perspective.
I remember when I first started to doubt and overanalyze my writing. I never had any kind of conscious thought about how much that has changed my writing. I've been doing better as of late, partly with the help of recognizing bad ideas can still have something worth working with. I even have a writing journal I put my B.A.D. Ideas (Brainstorming and Developing). Taking the moment to just be creative before figuring out if it's a "good" idea.
I have a few outlets for my creativity, and I usually use one to spark up my writing. Taking the moment to forget my constraints and believe in whatever world or character I see in my mind is a rejuvenating process. Making it a stressor can be undone though. Need to remind myself that sometimes, but it can really be done.
I only recently really understood what the first draft is for. I regret not taking advantage of first drafts more when I was younger, but I also have to recognize I didn't know how they worked. I'm still a beginner outside of my school assignments. I look forward to finishing a personal first draft for the first time.
Bringing God into the conversation for a moment was not expected but really nice. I sometimes think I've gotten so good at working on my thinking mind on my own, but it only goes so far. But I find myself being my most creative when I include The Creator in my process.

Hey Tyler idk if you will see this but I hope so. I tried to do the link with you but all the slots are full through July. Will you be opening up for August. If not I understand but I really wanted to ask you about a script I am writing and w/o going into to much detail means a lot to me and is close to me. I really need guidance on if I should write it, if I'm doing the write thing, should I put it down or go another way, etc. Please let me know if you are doing more free meetings after July I feel like I am in a cycle of confusion, procrastination, but also purpose. Please let me know. Thank you for all of your help and knowledge you give ❤🙏🏾

Bro your work is so golden, I'm so appalled that this has less than 200 likes. It is so frustrating to be young and have a strong thirst for knowledge and bettering your perspective/art in this day and age, with this constant obsessive craving for quick, 'straightforward' content exuded from most people. It is very refreshing to find something/someone I can actually binge watch, thank you for extending your wisdom, I love critical thinkers and our holistic approach to our work 🙏🙏 being a giving artist has to be the best life path I can think of, keep going man 💯 I need to find that link in the description 😂👀

Incroyable discours.

I agree with @Drudenfusz, and not just because I've been an Atheist since I was old enough to decide for myself. Time and again, I'm left surprised at how little amount of hubris is required for anyone to believe they have anything of import figured out, and it's just a shame that you feel ready to speak so condescendingly about those of us who just aren't ready to accept someone's word without evidence as "fact, " and even singling this out as a deficiency with direct correlation to our writing hangups. Really? Are you sure about that? "Are ya sure about that?" :D
Tyler, you might have acquired some degree of proficiency in the craft of screenwriting, but you're venturing into "guru" territory with this video (which I still hope is a belated April Fool's joke). Hopefully you can backtrack a little at some opportunity, but if not, best of luck to you, and more importantly, to your subscribers. Unless of course you're just pandering to a certain demographic by way of YouTube metrics, in which case I guess the best I can do is simply roll my eyes and move on, but still sad because it negates much of the appreciation I had for your advice up to this point. Again, best of luck to all either way.
