I'm old. The first time I heard the THX trailer was at Manns ChrisTown cinemas before "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom". My friend had to convince me to drive across town to this theater that at that time, was the only one that had THX. I wanted to go to the one-auditorium bigger screen that was closer to home (not by much) & watch the film in 70mm 6-track. I found that not only did that theater also have a 70/6 print of 'Temple of Doom", they also had a now rare 70/6 sound trailer attached. I remember after hearing that noise, I said "That's it, I don't even need to see the movie!" And yes, people really did cheer the trailer. If you had a good projectionist, they always cranked it.

Then...,

DTS came along and blew apart THX with that disc surrounding you from behind, & that crazy noise following the words "the digital experience" racing around the theater. I saw that trailer with "Jurassic Park" (25:years ago!), "Blown Away", & "Lords of Illusion" (horrible picture & sound. what did I expect? it was UA theaters. they sucked in my town. cheap muthas).

My new obsession is Atmos. In a good theater, along with Dolby Vision (and no children) movies ROCK! My home video sound obsession is dts-x, Atmos, & 4K TV. I'm old. I stay home more.
