I was lucky enough to see Van Halen live four times. Twice with Roth on the Diver Down & 1984 tours and twice with Hagar on the 5150 and the 2004 tour where they reunited with Hagar. Four times his solo dropped my jaw to the floor. EVH will always be my favorite guitarist. RIP Edward, you are sorely missed.

All those techniques existed before electric guitar. They just became more exotic and exciting as technology advanced. Eddie just took all those things to the extreme.

In the 70's, Jimmy Page, Ace Frehley, Angus Young and others all did that hammer on trick with one hand, particularly Angus with his right hand up just like that. Page would hoist the guitar up over his head during his Heartbreaker solo bit and Ace would point it from between his legs and shoot a roman candle from the headstock, so who was he really referring to?

Whatever amp and or effects settings he has must be a super saturated high gain to have the guitar so sensitive to make harmonics at the third fret super loud and clear like that.

Nothing more annoying then the know it all’s saying Eddie didn’t invent tapping we all know that and don’t care! Eddie made tapping what it is today. Before Eddie did it you can count on one hand the people that used it and imo that’s because nobody made melodic songs with tapping it was almost like when the car was invented nobody knew what to really do with it or how to build them until Henry Ford. Without Eddie extreme guitar playing would not be what it was and is.
