Chad provides an introduction to Newton's Laws of Motion. He first defines a force as the push or pull on one object by another, and states that the SI unit of force is the Newton. He then defines, compares, and contrasts contact forces and field forces and provides examples of each. Finally, the four fundamental forces are introduced in order of relative strength. These include the strong nuclear force, the electromagnetic force, the weak nuclear force, and gravity. The strong nuclear force and weak nuclear force only operate at very short distances and therefore are only significant in the nucleus. The electromagnetic force and gravity operate over much larger distances, and are the forces that will be the focus of both General Physics 1 and General Physics 2.

Chad then covers Newton's Laws of Motion, and the largest part of this video might be called Newton's Laws of Motion Explained Simply. Newton's First Law states that an the motion of an object will remain unchanged in not net force is acting upon it. This means that absent a net force an object at rest will remain at rest, and an object in motion with a certain velocity will remain in motion with constant velocity. Newton's Second Law states that for an object with a net force acting upon it, it's velocity will change, and more specifically that the sum of the forces acting upon it will equal mass times acceleration. So the force and the acceleration are proportional, while the mass and acceleration are inversely proportional. Finally, Newton's Third Law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. What is meant by this is that for every force there is another force of equal magnitude but opposite in direction.

Hey Chad! I have been watching your videos for almost two months now. I wonder how much of an interest you had in these subjects growing up to be able to teach them at such a high level. Also, that illustration of you throwing a baseball makes me curious since I am a sports head. Do you like sports?

How is this physics playlist different from your general physics playlist and also as the AP Physics 2 curriculum changes this year, are fluids included in here?

It's been a while since I've visted this page considering I finished my science courses a couple of semesters ago, but now that I'm taking physics, it's good to be back 👍🏽 I can always count on Chad
