Drilling out a 2002 chevy Silverado ignition

That was painful to watch. But i remember I lost my keys at work one time . Drilled my cylinder out at work. Started it up with scissors. Used a cardboard to disable the steering wheel lock. Was on the highway home and my cardboard fell out. Steering wheel locked at 80 mph. Grabbed my knife disabled the lock again, luckily on the first try. Had to use knife to keep the lock disengaged tho. Hahaha. Fck I remembered coming the light coming off the freeway. Guy next to me said get that money. Just said always. Haha

so you know, I have the exact problem you had and removing the face plate of the ignition and pushing in those pins on the ignition lock cylinder does not resolve the issue. So, you were probably right to drill. Your cylinder may have had bad tumblers or springs, that is more likely the issue and pushing in those pins does nothing.

Well I really wish you would’ve demonstrate how did you take it out because it seems like I have the same issue someone drilled it and I cannot get it to work so can you tell me what did you do after you got the hacksaw and made that cut did you use the screwdriver to turn it like a key or?

about that 'side bar' shown that the brass looking thing that is bent up at an angle ? Is that really the only thing keeping the lock cylinder in there, or keeping it from turning so that it can be pulled out?

I’ve drilled out the key hole and pried up the lock bar but can’t turn my ignition past ON. Any recommendations?

Those pins are NOT holding the cylinder in place. Youtube is wrong about that.

I took a small sledge and a big screwdriver. Pounded it in until the ignition and the housing broke in half. I was worried but i could easily fit my screwdriver in and turn it over.

Somehow the thieves who stole my truck were able to drill it out and making it look completely untouched from the outside.

You did it all wrong.first buy a new ign switch and use it to determine wnere the sidebar is at on your old switch.than remove face of ign switch by using pliers.use a 5/16 dimond cutting tip and a drill at medium speed next cut a hole about 1.5/8 inch deep make sure the hole you make is between the center of the switch and the outside side of the side bar.as you cut remove metal shavings .straw works good make sure you use safety glasses and close eyes.note you don't want to get too close to the sensor that reads the side bar or else it will turn in to a bigger job.and don't go too deep and damage the plastic component.make sure you remove all material from hole..this job won't take you more than 10 minutes from the time you start cutting hole.

I had to drill out my 95 a few days ago. Just keep drilling. I got a new bit 1/2. Finnaly the thing would turn. Now I can start the truck with pliers or push the release and pull it out.

At first I thought I had made everything worse. It was a nightmare.

I did the same thing you did how ever after I got the ignition out the thing inside were you would take a screwdriver to crank it if you didn't put an ignition back in is still stuck and want turn

What a mess, and potential disaster for final repair.
Why not pop off the plastic donut where the key goes through, then insert a thin little
o-ring- remover spade-like tool at the 'under the 9 o-clock position' to try and push the lock bar inwards 3/32 of an inch or a beginning step? Then proceed from there?

It was painful to watch this guy with the saw drill as far as u can then try using a screwdriver to insert in the hole an try turning it a little then use a point sharp screwdriver to pry the pin on top an push forward on it at the same time as u turn screwdriver key to on position an pull out? Had to do it that way dau6if couldn't get key in due to damage ignition key by thieves????
