What is Cilantro? What is Coriander? Are they the same? lately I've been getting questions, both online and in person about the differences (if there are any) between the herb Cilantro and the spice Coriander. In this video I'll give you a brief explanation of those two wonderful culinary ingredients.

Mind Blown!!! I planted what I thought was Cilantro. I thought Cilantro was a green leafy plant .. but then white blooms started to grow!?!? That is what brought me here! I had no clue Cilantro was Coriander!!!! Dude! 😲 Thank you so much for a simple video explaining. 🤯🤯🤯 Cool!

Coriander (powder) + Turmeric (powder) + Chilli (power) and you have the base for a curry, from there add more spices like Cumin seed (powder) and Celery (paste)and you get yourself a basic curry which taste really good when cooked in coconut milk. You can mix up to 20 herbs and spices in a curry, but the main ingredients will always be that three. And Turmeric and Chilli should be easier to grow than Coriander. So you can pretty easily make "fresh curry" from your own garden.

Thanks for making this clear. I'm from Germany and was confused about the term "cilantro".😅

Well done!
Coriander tastes a little lemony to me, so I put it in recipes with lemons.
For instance, I make a lentil soup dish with a delicious sauce made out of sauteed onion, lemon (or lime) juice, olive oil, oregano and coriander.
I like to put whole coriander in with whole pepper and whatever lemony herbs and spices I've got to make lemon pepper - dried lemon rinds aren't lemony enough for me.
Another fun thing is to add it to the rice pot, along with a little turmeric to turn the rice yellow.

I add coriander to my sugar cookie or yellow cake before baking. I love the flavor. I have used the ground spice, which I use a coffee grinder to grind, and essential oil.
I love the bloopers you've added lately! Fun.

Use the seeds when you make curry. It's one of the basic ingredients in most curries. About two tablespoons ground coriander seeds to six portions of meat or veg curry. The chopped up coriander leaves are usually added to some curries just before the curry is finished cooking.

Omgosh I love coriander! I put it in pretty much everything. It's my secret weapon. It adds a nice little note of flavor and pairs well with lots of different spices-- or even simple things like garlic, onion, pepper. Experiment! You'll be happy you did 😃

When I started cooking from scratch several years ago, it took me a couple months to get it through my brain that coriander is the seeds  =)   Now I buy the seeds and toast or ground them myself.  Also, if you know of anyone with digestion issues (acid reflux, constipation, etc), steep a tea of coriander, cumin, and fennel seeds.  Earthy, lovely!  And your gut loves it  =)

My gorgeous cilantro plant just bolted last weekend in the heat. 95 + degrees fahrenheit ! Who could blame it. But I'll love it and tend it to welcome the seeds. Thank you for the clarification! Looking forward to what else you might teach us.

I like to lightly chop cilantro in a small amount of water and then freeze in ice cube trays for soups or salsa additions later on. Store loose cubes in a baggy & grab from freezer when needed.

I came to comment on the wilted cilantro but the comments were so hilarious about the cicada and “rattlesnakes”, that I forgot what I planned to say. 😂 Cicadas are super noisy in Texas. They really do become white noise after a while when you live there.
