I've often described ISTPs as a hybrid type who blur the lines between the intuitives and the sensors. In this video I talk about the differences between ISTPs and their two cousins - the INTPs and ESTPs.

I’m an ISTP and my wife is an INTP. We have a hard time deciding who is the more nerdier. I’m just better at not looking like a nerd, but only slightly so. The older I get the harder it becomes to not let it ooze out.

ISTP’s sound infinitely cool to me lol First test I ever did at school typed me as one and I thought I was so cool.. but something seemed a lil off so I forgot about it until I typed as an INTP years later and was flabbergasted at how seen I felt. But yeah ISTP sounds like the cool cousin 😜

As an ISTP with ISTP friends.

Marching band and band in our school years was an outlet. I found comfort in playing bass drum and reading notes getting accents right and finally listening to the sweet mellow melody my band would make. I love making notes out of my hands and listening to how pretty a sound a trumpet or saxophone would make.. i really love it

My ISTP daughter is a wizard in the kitchen, in the sense of being uber able to follow a recipe, using various techniques, and implementing every damn utensil until she finds the right one, meanwhile making messes with ingredients on every working surface; she unnecessarily uses all of them leaving the kitchen in an utter upheaval, every time. However, when she’s in cleaning mode (never after cooking) she is spectacular!

Finally you are beginning to understand. People assume that ESTPs are the ones who are true masters of Se, but it’s not entirely true. For us Se is used as a tool not only for sensory experiences like it is for the ESTPs, but much deeper. For us we want to full immerse ourselves in it and explore everything that it has to offer from the inside out. Just like how we do with everything else. ISTPs are after mastery, while ESTPs are often after new sensory experiences and then they want to move on to something else. But when your Dominant function is Ti, you want to get to the core of understanding how things work. So ISTPs can be just as good with Se if not better in some cases.

I don't fix cars but I know how they work. Men (and women) always surprised I can drive like a pro at high speeds, drifting, doughnuts, j-turns, other tricks. Taught myself, of course.

Sometimes I wonder what IxxP I am, no INFP I almost never cry. No ISFP I make zero sense of colours and general esthetic. And I can't be ISTP, because I'm awkward and uncool.
Leaving me with INTP I guess, but then I was always good at sports... 🤔

I really don't think ISTPs have a more mechanical aptitude than many other types. The mechanics are in our minds i liken it to an on off switch...we get it or we don't, we like it or we don't, we do it or we won't 🤷🏾‍♀️ 🚦 and today is different from tomorrow.
Do we give things a "chance "??
