The translation of "Carmina Burana" is not quite right. It could mean "peasant song" or "song from Beuren" (Beuren refers to a region in Upper Bavaria where these lyrics where found in a monestry called Benediktbeuren). The word "Beuer" is close to the German word "Bauer" which means farmer.

The only thing sure is: these lycris were collected under the name "Carmina Burana" for centuries and kept in Benediktbeuren.

That Carl Orff turned it into a masterpiece is surprising and such a joy for mankind.

Compare Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana to Richard Wagner’s Ring Cycle.

I have paired Orff's Carmina Burana with Copland's Applachain Spring as a Thanksgiving Propaganda composition.
