Welcome to Sensible Secondhand Reviews, the series where we usually take a sensible secondhand car worth between £1000 and £5000 and put it through its paces in a very straightforward manner! This time, we test a 2018 Ford Kuga 1.5 ST-Line, which is related to the 2017 Ford Focus we tested on our last visit to Essex.

Be prepared for an interior in almost perfect condition, an annoying electronic handbrake, incompetence at opening the tailgate, very little of any consequence at all. Nothing untoward, then!

We own the 1.5 turbo diesel 2019 model, non st line, its the model just below the st line here in South Africa, they awesome vehicles. Avg diesel consumption is about 5 to 6.5 l/100km, the drive is not as harsh, it soaks up bumps well, however when cornering hard it does have slight body roll but you just have to trust it, perfect daily car. Make sure u have them under warranty though. Load of tech included.

Bluetooth audio on the infotainment is via the source button at the top left of the screen when on the audio tab. (Mk 3.5 Focus owner and the Sync 3 isn’t a bad system if you can get past the user interface as designed by a 10 year old with Windows Paint!)

I like this!
US versions only have ecoboost (Ecoboom) engines, NO FORBIDDEN FUEL.
I'm not sure whether or not the US had a similar model for the Escape, engine choices I believe were 1.5 and 2.0 litre turbo 4. Only automatic fir the US as we are lazy. Titanium is the top line model. I like the interior, and controls are similar.
Great review Joseph!

This does everything you need an everyday car to do…not keen on the electronic handbrake (overly complicated), im not usually a fan of electronic tailgates but in this instance I can see the benefits of having one…in relation to the eco boom engine, if you are looking at one as a medium to long term proposition I guess the best thing to do is put the money for a rebuild to one side and don’t worry about it until it happens (if it happens…)

Interesting video, I'm considering a Kuga, but I prefer automatic cars. Do you ever test drive automatic transmission cars?

Is it that you're legally obliged not to discuss diesels or de-monetised or something? I sense a note of lament in your tone
