For those interested in who I am you can find below a short presentation.

My name is Daniel, I am an electronic engineer who started some time to work with wood. Wood was a passion of mine since my childhood when I grew up with my uncle who was a woodworker.

When I was about 35 I bought a CNC machine and made several things with it.

Working with wood I needed some cutting tools so I had to buy hand planes and chisels. They needed to be sharpened so I have discovered whetstones and I have another passion now: sharpening. I like sharpening and I discover how relaxing is to sharpen a kitchen knife. I am not a specialist, I am a self though from what I read and from other people's movies.

On my channel, you can find movies with what I do in my workshop: sharpening, some woodworking, repairing things, and whatever I have to do and I consider to be interesting for you.

I am sure that you don’t like all my movies. There is no problem, it is normal. :) If you would like to tell me your opinions please be civilized. :) But I hope that you like them at least 99.99%. :)

Thank you for watching and as I already told you in the movie please support me with a like, comment, share, subscribe, etc. Any of them are important to me.

Hello Daniel, great video as always. Most people confuse 6K for a soaking stone since there's nothing on the package with that info. I cracked my stone before I figured that out. Now I always do the water test instead of trusting the manufacture.

King KDS 1000/6000 looks a lot like king KW65 1000/6000. Both stones 1K is soak and 6K is Splash and go. The only difference is that on KW65 both sides have same size while on KDS the 6K side is thinner. Probably you got a KW65 mislabeled as KDS.

KW65 6K tends to load up more than the KDS 6K.

9:00 this is a great demonstration that a 250/1000 is more appropriate for new sharpeners, because they certainly have knives in bad shape.

13:02 Your oil stone is in very bad shape. Have you seen any of Stefan Wolf's sharpening videos? He loves oilstones, but he conditions them with SiC on glass religiously. I tried it myself and the performance is easily 5x improved after this kind of recondition. I suspect you will like Nortons even more if you try this.

That 6000 grit waterstone sounds just like a sheet of 400 grit sandpaper in action.

The kanji on your knife says "Master Craftsman Shigeki Tanaka Made" he's a very well respected smith from Miki City just northwest of Kobe.

Hi Daniel. Do you find any difference between different 1k stones from King, or is the only difference the size and shape? I really love King 300 and King 1k. 6k is ok too but not my favourite. Thank you for the video 🙏

You consider the two stones 1000 sides are the same?
By the way, as you know, i recently tested this stone. In my case, on the 6000 side was more efficient if i put a little pressure just when i moove the blade towards from the edge.
