The Junquera Street was named after Governor General Inocencio Junquera. He contributed a lot to Cebuano culture by founding the Teatro Junquera, which was one of the most important theatres at the time. Now the theatre is called Oriente. Junquera street was once a red-light district until urbanization crawled to Cebu’s
uptown area. From a red light district to one of the academic belts, these changes in the history of
the districts makes it more interesting and attractive.
