One thing I add is diatomaceous earth. About 1 cup for 10 gallons. It lightens the soil, helps make it less desirable to fungus gnats. It also breaks down into silica. That breakdiwn takes time but helps in future grows. I also like some wood ashes. That adds not only potassium but all the micronutrients that end up getting taken out of the soil over time. Careful! Ashes are very high pH.

I have never thrown any soil out, going on about 2 years indoor now(base is fox farm). I let them dry out, take them out side and shuck as much of the roots as i can out. Then i put 4-4-4 fert in it and mix it well, lightly water and let sit for a month or two with very light sprays of water every two weeks or so. Get a bag of perlite and worm castings to mix in and you have yourself some potent soil for the next run, for the first 5-6 weeks anyway.

when re-using my old soil i have been adding my home made compost to old soils from the year before and then keeping the mix in 27 gal covered containers that i moisten and leave in the dark for weeks, sometimes months . sometimes i will add manure to the mix when i put it into pots along with perlite and have recently been using worm castings as well at about a 1/5 ratio . i rarely use any nutrients during veg if at all and mostly concentrate on nutrients during flower at low concentration. so far, so good.

I definitely appreciate no till. However it doesn't seem like it would make a big difference when growing in smaller containers, like 5-10 gal. Reusing and mixing in my own inputs, just as you did in the video has given me great results. And I am of the mind, if it isn't broke, don't fix it.
One thing I don't do is let it "cook."
It already takes a few weeks for the root system to begin to use any of those amendments. So I just throw it in my pots, add a few inches of seedling mix on top and in the middle, and chuck in my beans.
Thanks for the video.

Some great points so far, to which I’d like to add: there’s this stuff called Liquid Soil which I’ve started using in the past year, and it’s pretty neat.
It’s made by TPS Nutrients to which I have no connection whatsoever and as far as I understand it’s got three components which work synergistically: The first is a flushing agent which binds to the ionic salts, the second is a microbial inoculation to revive the rhizosphere, and the third is an enzyme to help digest the old dead roots into a source of carbohydrates. I run about 2 to 3 gallons of the solution to each gallon of soil and let it sit for a couple of days and then mix in amendments such as worm castings, rock dust and guanos for the next season. I’m also a big fan of Hygrozyme which is wonderful addition to any regimen. Together, they’ve gone a long way towards correcting mystery micronutrient deficiencies and pH drift issues due to leftover salts and/or unprocessed dead matter in my soil.

Cheers, and I hope this helps!

I really appreciate this video. I'd love seeing this channel do a day-by-day time-lapse of some Feminized Photoperiods. I like how you cover the details and being this is my first Grow, I've looked at atleast 100 different videos over a few months on multiple different styles and etc. You really have a great platform here and I hope it keeps going smoothly for you.

I’m actually on my first run using reused soil. And I pretty did the same think you did except I didn’t even let my soil cook at all lol I just picked out all the large root balls, re amend 50/50 blend of 4-4-4 and 3-8-4 of Dr Earth dry amendments and worm castings. Repotted and watered with black strap molasses, liquid seaweed and fish sh!t. Compared to my other plantas which are not using re amendmended soil for control purposes, they are looking super healthy no deficiency yet. Going into week cinco of 🌺 and they are looking awesome!! Thank you for all that you do Señor Grow it!!!

Any of my old indoor soil goes directly into my compost bin & I use for my outdoor plants which always tend to need far more soil than indoor plants anyway 😁

Hey I bot a used wheel barrow that 1:07 to 1:40 PERFECTLY holds 20 gals +, and it is a LOT easier if you have the place. Also 71/2 gal. rectangular waste baskets [as opposed to [2] two 4 gal rounds] gave me THREE TIMES THE SOIL for my small grow space. And a MUCH BETTER

Thanks for all the info ! I empty bags. Add 3 gal used soil 1 gal coco coir, 1 gal my compost (could replace with 1 gal used soil)10-15 lbs worm castings, 1 gal peat moss, 1 gal perlite, 10 tbs seabird guano, (I usually use bat guano 0-5-0 16 tbs but all I could find at the time was the seabird guano 0-11-0. Dolomite lime as need for PH and Cal- mag. I fill bag with what is close to subcool's super soil 1/2 way then this soil the 2nd (top) half. Great smoke just a little behind on yield. MAKES 7-8 gal of soil.
