Granddaughter keeps complaining I buy too much do we really need it? Well she just experience her first disaster a tropical storm the day before it hit everyone showed up at her job (Home Depot) to buy supplies, sandbags, buckets, mops, flashlights, batteries, water etc.... they ran out in a few hours, the customers were VERY upset, every store in town ran out of the same thing and the grocery stores were wipe she just smile and felt relieved that I was fully prepared for power outage, food and supplies.... now word is coming out don't drink the water may be contaminated with E. coli ... no worries there I filled up our 7 gallon water storage containers before the storm hit (four) at a water dispenser machine (cheaper than buying water bottles) we been drinking them since it started and we have water storage in our long term water barrel and not counting a way to filter the water.... Granddaughter is not complaining about me no understands now the stores only carried so much regardless they can have pellets of that product but when they show up by the hundreds they will ran

I love spam. It sure helped me keep my sons fed when I was a struggling single mother. I would cube it, fry it, and stir it into a couple of cheap boxes of Mac and cheese, add some chili seasoning-it filled their belly!

Be sure to open your cases from Keystone. My last order had 7 dented cans. Super glad I checked when it arrived & didn’t just tuck it away. Called the company, they asked for photos & shipped out replacement cans.

My husband drinks soda. He buys 1lt or 16 Oz bottles. I rinse them, put them upside down in a paper bag w/handles and hang it to dry and forget about it. Next time I go shopping I buy a 50lb bag of rice. I portion it out into the bottles and shelve it. Around 40 16 Oz bottles, I think. It’s a nice portion size, about 2cups, to cook with or to give away w/out exposing the extent of your stores.

Yes, we love food hauls so do bi-weekly.👍😄 If 10Lbs of Mahatma is $11.99 and a 20 Lb. bag of Jasmine was $27 then the 20 Lbs. of Jasmine is only $3 more than 2 bags of long grain. $27-$24=$3. If you like Jasmine then go for it. Have a great weekend, Grey.

When we do onions to dehydrate we wear goggles. Then I set the dehydrators up on the porch because it's mighty powerful!

I get man6 of the same things, I’ve already put up extra canned soup for the winter, even thought I like making my own with less sodium if can.. one suggestion, cornbread normally requires egg and milk, there are packages that require just water, which if don’t have eggs and milk is great to have. Same with instant mashed potatoes, there are some that say just add water..I also put up Almond milk in cartons(they are in the bottle juice section. I cook with it. It doesn’t have to be put in fridge until it’s opened. Right. Ow the Best Buy date is April 29, 2024. It’s not as good as milk but good to have when run out of milk and I like better than powdered . Good preps I have the cans of turkey too for thanksgiving and the cans behind you and a lot of Walmart chicken . Have a good day

Perfect point! Always stock up on what your family will eat, I'm working on my stock right now. I have a few more pounds of sugar and my sugar haul is done for the year and flour is next to finish

Something to think about, in 2020 stores had stock, there was stock in warehouses. It may have took time to restock selves but it was there for awhile. Now, there's no stock in most stores plus warehouses don't have items to ship. So now if there's a (lockdown) if it out, it's out.. with all the shortages now days it wouldn't take long for stores to empty. Just a thought!!

I love hauls. It reminds me of things I need. I really like Keystone beef. I would probably add gravy packets to a haul. Cheap and can be stored in a glass jar for longer storage.

Just keep in mind that these "wet' canned goods are for short-term storage. You really should use them within two years to get the best flavor and texture. And you must protect those cans from freezing temperatures during winter power outages. If the wet food inside those cans freezes, the food with expand as it freezes and burst the seams of the cans. A major downside to wet canned foods is that when it is time to rotate/replace those foods you will not know if replacements will be available or at a price you can afford. And it is expensive to rotate those canned goods every two years or so. If the wet canned food is allowed to get too old and it spoils or develops an odd color, texture or flavor to the point that no one will eat it, then that is money wasted.

Those paper sacks and pasteboard boxes of dry foods such as flour and dry pasta are not packaged for long-term storage either. High humidity or leaky ceilings in the pantry can cause the dry food to mildew. The microscopic eggs of grain-eating insects can hatch out in some of the dry food and gnaw their way into those paper bags and pasteboard boxes. These dry foods would need to be repackaged for long-term storage, right after purchase, to get the longest shelf life and prevent insect damage. For that you need Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers.

If you want to buy your emergency food just once and know it can store for 20 years and it will not be harmed by freezing temperatures, then you want dry foods that are packaged for long-term storage. Imagine if you could gradually accumulate a year's worth of emergency food storage, store it properly and forget about it until you needed it in an emergency or until the food had reached the end of its shelf life (in 20 or so years). You would save yourself the repeated cost of having to rotate the food every two years. The downside to dry food storage is you may need to store enough clean drinking water for rehydrating and cooking those dry foods in the aftermath of a disaster.

The least expensive source of #10 cans of basic dry foods -- for those living in the U.S. -- is to buy from the LDS Home Storage Centers. There is even an online Home Storage Center where you can place an order to have the food delivered at modest delivery cost to your home. The prices listed are for six #10 cans of a food. The website for the online store is www.providentliving.org.

I practically live on YouTube but haven't run across your channel. Was just on Twitter and followed you. That's where I saw your YT channel.
Can you believe I'm from the South and don't drink coffee or tea? 🤪 lol.
And, yes I have Spam now that I saw how to remove some of the salt by boiling it for a couple minutes first.
Thanks for sharing.

Oh, this isn't the pic I use on Twitter/X. It's has a wolf. Now you'll know who I am. Have a great rest of your weekend.

I live in Uvalde county Texas I wish I could meet like-minded people around here. I've only lived here a couple of years and the few people I know don't believe. Just want more ideas.

This was a great haul! I wish I could do a big buy like that, and also had more room to store food!
I have to buy smaller amounts, like 5 pound bags of rice, because of my budget, but I have been storing food for a few years now, and have it in every nook and cranny in my small home! That’s a good problem to have, isn’t it?
