Most of his slaves were inherited through his marriage with his wife which is why he was unable to free them

First anti-slavery law I know was Cyrus the Great, before Jesus. He said slavery was a horror no civilised nation would allow. The Persian empire, and many other countries NEVER had slavery. While Americans pat themselves on the back for -only- having it for 100 years...
Washington (a slaver who owned and BRED slaves) said no Europeans can bring new slaves in??! This law gives him and the other slavers in government a monopoly on black people in the USA. I'm sure he believed he was taking baby steps toward freedom, but he also put an add in the newspaper to recapture a slave girl who ran away from him. He wanted to ENSLAVE her again!

Wasn’t this law unconstitutional? What about the provision forbidding federal interference with the slave trade before 1808?

Years later black people would hate those who tried so hard to free them. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

Americans: “all men are equal except 3/5 of you”
Americans: “the gods will agree that”

First ever ban on slavery was done by Chatrapati Shivaji in India. You can check that out. If this is just about US its okay but this act was definitely not first in the world.
