The ROOT of Autism: The Autistic Triad (Autistic Bitesize 1)

Показать описание
The Autistic Triad is the central group of differences autistic people recognise that shape our thoughts and behaviours. Everything that makes us distinctive, both positive and negative, stems from one or more of these essential divergences from the average.

This is one of the best introductions to Autism I’ve ever seen; its short enough to not to lose people’s attention, it presents the main most important messages clearly, and it shows that Autism is not just a collection of impairments or an intellectual disability. Great work!

I found the bit about need for truth especially relatable. I hate lies - hate being lied to, lied about, and, worst of all, hate it if someone lies to me about me (it has happened). I can’t put on an act, certainly not one which would be convincing, so I don’t see any logical point in trying to do so! Therefore, in order not to put my foot in it, I will simply avoid situations and people if there’s a lack of compatibility, as I don’t want to bore or upset anyone and I don’t want anyone doing that to me.

In terms of sensory issues, I have a really bad aversion to cigarette smoke and strong detergents, both smells make me sick. Emotionally, some of my expressions are mistaken by others, and I find it very frustrating that people think I am “frowning” when I am actually concentrating on something and enjoying it.

Never been assessed, let alone diagnosed, and I’m a woman in my late 40s, but the more I see and read, the more I am convinced my brain is on a different operating system to that of most other brains!

I feel so seen right now.🥹Ive watched a few of your videos today and I am so comforted. It took me 52 years to find out that the planet I belong to is planet Autism. In these last two years since learning what planet I'm from, I've grown and am thriving for the first time in my life. Your channel is such a nice place to be, thankyou❤

Excellent short - and a much more user-friendly and accessible description of the condition than the DSM 👍🏻

I would like to be able to send this to my mother but i doubt she would even take the time to watch it or use it as a primer to understanding “me”. And see the reasons why she and i will not ever find common ground issues where she would prefer to be the person living my life and making MY choices for me.

As a late diagnosed autistic finding online communities of other autistic adults has been instrumental in my growth, unmasking, and finding my authentic autistic self. Instead of comparing myself to neurotypicals and feeling like a failure I see the perfectly normal experiences of autistic people. I am a failure at pretending to be allistic, but I'm a great authentic autistic.

I am a 39 y/o newly diagnosed AuDHD woman (dx adhd in 2012). This is the best explanation I have seen and will be sharing it when I am ready to share my story. Thank you for coming out of the autistic closet. YouTubers like you is the reason I now understand myself for the first time in my life. I have a lot of learning to go, but feeling ‘understood’ is a great feeling.

Just seen this two years late, Quinn. Well done. 👏
It's so refreshing to see as well as hear an autism explainer, and one that doesn't regurgitate the science books about the triad of communication deficits from a non-autistic perspective!
Furthermore, I completely agree with your summation of our senses, emotions and the truth being absolutely central to our being.

I am on the spectrum but I lie primarily to protect myself.
I learnt to do it because I grew up in an abusive family where failure in a test was punished severely.

That catches essence of what I found myself so much better than any other autism explanation.
