German Tank Development: The Rheinmetall Prototype

In 1925, Germany began exploring tanks in extreme secrecy, developing an armored chassis based on a tractor chassis with a maximum road speed of 40 kilometers per hour. Rheinmetall's design was the most successful, producing two finished vehicles and one chassis, but the tank had technical issues and was eventually replaced by the Panzer I tank.

The preliminary test vehicle had the basic elements of a standard tank, but was not practical and had many technical issues. It was eventually used for training in the military and scrapped two years before the outbreak of World War II.
