The Ultimate Showdown: Leopard 2 MBT vs. Russian Armor

The Leopard II tank, a product of the Cold War, was conceived to counterbalance the formidable armored forces of the Soviet Union which outnumbered NATO almost 3 to 1. West Germany and NATO could not compete tank for tank with the Warsaw Pact, but they could build better tanks. The Leopard 2 entered service in 1979, and it was a better tank than anything the enemy had.

The design philosophy of the Leopard 2 was underpinned by a unique blend of balance and adaptability.

The Leopard 2 employs a multilayered, spaced armor design throughout its structure. This complex armor is constructed from steel plates of diverse hardness levels, combined with elastic substances, and other non-metallic components.

Powered by a water-cooled 12-cylinder MTU MB 873 diesel engine with 1,500 horsepower this cat is one of the fastest tanks around. More than 21 horsepower per ton is sufficient to propel this 73 tons (66.5 tonnes) armored giant to a maximum speed of 43 miles per hour (70 kilometers per hour).

The Rheinmetall 120 mm smoothbore gun, which was later adapted for use on the M1 Abrams, is the primary armament for production versions of the Leopard 2 in either the L/44 variant or the modern L/55 variant.

And almost half a century later, this hunter will have the opportunity to face its long-awaited prey in Ukraine.

A tank is only as good as it's support vehicles

The leapoards in Umraine probably hit mines and then were hit with artillery. Nothing survives artillery.

If you expect a scramble trained Ukrainian crews to be able to man a Leopard II with all the ability and skill of a German crew with years of experience and trained, you're in for an unpleasant lesson. There is no doubt the Leopard II is one of the best tahks in the world, but to get that kind of performance you also need some of the best tank crewmen

This is why you don't trust these technical specifications. On paper these tanks are the best, but in practice (real war) they're burning on Ukraine by Russian artillery and $20k drones...

Russian bots are only units still functioning as they doesnt need any skill or training. 😂

Comments be like: "The leopard is a bad tank cause he can't withstand a atomic bomb, naval ship, helicopter, aircraft or the death star"

Other "smarter" comments be like: "This tank is bad against >>> ANTI TANK MINES <<< and artillery or drone attacks from above"

Get a grip! COD fanboys

EOD safety suits for TANK CREWS!
Combat aircrafts have ejection seats.
Infantry bullet safer gear ...

So why not blast and fire safe suits for those guys in tanks if a hit is a hit!!!?

Having seen some Ukraine tank blowup competitions, I guess is a vise investment and probably BIG BUSINESS for the Military complex, they should do!

I mean a suit that allows a crew to survive a tank fist blow penetration and tank bullet wall shrapnels, ammunition flame out...for 8 minutes.

Sort of pressure safe suits, in the look of a Diver suit with sealed helmet and Oxigen.

That could theoretically also allow tank crews to quick fix or repair stuff outside the tank under infantry engagement without to worry much and focus on his task.
