I've studied Scripture for a long time. It used to be fashionable to try to liken Christ's resurrection to various 'resurrection' myths and legends from earlier cultures, often one where a 'deity' is born, dies, and rises repeatedly on something like a seasonal basis. However, such mythology simply ignores the eye witnesses evidence for the resurrection, and several other considerations that influence how historians choose between competing claims..
As a historian, when I first applied the methodology of historians in deciding among competing claims about Jesus rising from the dead, it became very obvious that Jesus' resurrection is the best explanation offered for the historical data we do have, even if you don't like that idea. I reached the conclusion that resurrection is the best explanation for the available data while still a 'loud and proud' atheist. While I am no longer an atheist, I still find the conclusions on the resurrection I reached while an atheist remain valid.
As an aside, I note the world of science has caught up to the Bible in establishing that the cosmos did have beginning, at which time, matter, space and energy all came into being in the same instant, and the universal constants that define the universe have been fine-tuned to allow for life, etc. For honest atheists like Francis Crick used to be, such facts are very powerful.
