Sorry Drew, but Rome is not an expensive city..some places (for tourists) at the historical center of the city, have expensive prices.
If u go out, also of few kilometers, or few subway stops, from the centre..it's really cheap.

Drew, espressos are worth way less than 5 Euros in Italy... Unless you got deep pockets for stuff like that in the city center

I lived in Roma for a year, and where I lived un caffè (an espresso) was only 50-70 cents. It is just the touristy areas which are rather very expensive. Drew, next time I recommend going to eat in Testaccio or Trastevere which are more reasonably priced, but I understand if you want to eat surrounded by more history.

You should revisit Romania, but especially visit Transylvania (cities like Arad, Timisoara, Oradea, Cluj, the Fortress of Alba Iulia, Sibiu, Brașov) and also Iași, and the seaside city of Constanta.

These cities are really underrated and I really think someone should promote them.
