NEW BOOK!

I'm an amp and pedal guy. I own more amps and pedals than I remember. I'm always opening draws and finding pedals I forgot I had... so why even consider going digital? Well... watch and find out?

Biggest pro for the Fractal is the presets are usable, more so than any other unit.

I've got an AxeFx III and love it. I hate to admit it but it's really replaced all my pedals and most of them are really high end. The quality and reliability is without question much better. You don't have to worry about cables and power supplies. There is so much you can do with the units that it's crazy. I do use Axe-Edit and rarely use the front panel to change things. If I ever start gigging again I'm going to get an FM9.

I went over to Fractal when they first introduced the std 2010ish sold all my stereo rack gear and have never looked back! Had the Axe Fx 2 and now on the Axe Fx 3 with two CLR powered cab and the FC12. I play it live and record with its, so consistent and reliable.
It does take a little time to get your head around all the options but it’s so worth that investment. I rarely use the front panel and only use the Axe Edit. For live I’ve put all the essential controls on a tab so you can get to level, reverb mix etc quickly but that’s what a rehearsal is for! Most gigs I use one preset and switch between scenes and the effects (stomp box mode)
I do hope you enjoy the wealth of classic and unobtainable amps as well as world class FX!

Looking forward to seeing your journey with the FM9. I have the FM3 and I love it. With the extra footswitches you could use them as effects on/off switches to make it feel even more like a pedalboard, but I'm sure you'll uncover all the foot switching possibilities soon.

Hello Levi, I got my FM9 in September after a year long wait. It's pretty stellar. Euro Red amp model is rather fantastic for lead tones.

EXCELLENT! I do have a KEMPER, but now I'm really thinking about buying a FRACTAL FM9!
Cheers & Thanks for this video.

The Fractal stuff is killer, as is the Neural Quad Cortex, and the Kemper Profiler. I've got a Kemper, I love it.
The biggest advantage of all of those digital units is how close you can get to the original sounds of things they're emulating, and being able to change entire rigs with the push of a button. They offer unmatchable versatility, they're reliable, and a huge space and weight saving piece of gear.

Interested to follow your discovery process! Had the FM9 but switched to ToneX and pedals. The digital amp emulations are incredible these days!

Sounds good on my iPhone … does it play and feel amp like or not ?

Hey Levi... I heard plenty of usable sounds... My only experience with these machines is many years ago working at a music (instrument) store... I know digital modding has come a long way since then... In the end, it's all about what works for you. I knew a jazz cat in Raleigh who gigged all over town using a Zoom 505 - and he always sounded great!

What did you think of the rotary sounds compared to your pedal? Personally I preferred the fractal as it had more depth.

It sounds like my Helix LT does the same things as far as presets and selecting them and multiple choices with multiple effects. Not sure I need to go much deeper than that once I can adjust each effect and the amps and the cabinets.

Absolutely love my Fractal Axe-Fx3 and FM3. The presets are absolutely superb. That said I tend to use Axe-Edit for preset and scene editing.

sounds very good not much to say .. it is no coincidence that Guthrie Govan has chosen it for his tour .. thanks, great review!

Some good sounds. I’m awaiting to see if the ToneX is going to be better value, as it’s loads cheaper.

Australian guitarist Peter Northcote does a fabulous extensive rundown of the FM9 on YouTube, must see.

I have a question, great demo. Have you tried the Headrush Prime? I am looking for a digital pedalboard that sounds more of a "true" amp. I am debating whether the Headrush Prime or the Fractal Audio FM9.

Those presets sound nothing like this on my guitar. What could be the issue.

Off topic, apologies, but here with a listen/transcription suggestion — Stanley Jordan’s solo on Overjoyed, Stanley Clarke’s Hideaway album.
