I love how you explained the family in a way that wasn’t patronizing or cruel. You’re such an awesome person, Emmy.

Thank you for being so respectful and kind to Honey Boo Boo’s family. Many people would take the opportunity to make fun of recipes by people living in poverty but you always treat the cultures of your food with the upmost respect.

One of the most lovable things about Emmy is how non judgmental or preachy she is.
She prefers butter over margarine and I really respect her ability to not go into why and I know she knows and it’s more than flavor etc.
She has zero pretense and it’s so refreshing!! The temptation to tell viewers why they ought to ditch the margarine has to be STRONG and because she respects her audience and is wise enough to know people do what they do she just says she doesn’t prefer.
ZERO PEDANTRY.
Better woman than me!!

I have made this for my family and it was pretty good but we all got diarrhea so it’s safe to say nothing never making it again 😂😂

Edit: it’s been over a year and y’all are still arguing about this💀 to recap so the YouTube food scientists can chill a bit, no my ketchup and my butter was not expired tf kinda question is that. We got diarrhea from all the butter that was in the sauce. Butter=fat and we don’t eat a stick of butter with every meal so we were bound to get the runs. We didn’t do this because we were struggling cause butter and ketchup is cheaper or whatever we literally just wanted to try it. It lowkey tasted like spaghetti o’s cause it was like sweet but I’ve never shit my brains out with spaghetti o’s sooo maybe just get the can and don’t do this. If u had a different experience and didn’t explode then good for you I guess but all 6 of us had the runs after and it was not from expired ketchup

I love how you never go into a recipe with judgement or overreaction, you actually give things an honest go. That being said, I think I’ll pass :p

Emmy having Mr Rogers on her shirt while she speaks so non judgementally (as usual) of people who are seen as a joke to most is just so appropriate and beautiful <3

My father grew up in Brooklyn and this is what spaghetti was to him. My ex wife was raised in Oceanside, NY and she often had spaghetti this way. Served to her by her mother who was born and raised in Brooklyn. The idea of it was always a joke among those of us who "knew better." Imagine my surprise when I tried this when I was in my forties and really liked it! "Free your mind and the rest will follow."

Definitely the cuisine of those living in poverty. I remember watching a friend’s kids for free while she worked. I brought a can of crushed tomatoes, a stick of butter, a jar of oregano, and a box of pasta in my tote. She didn’t have anything to feed her three kids, except for a single can of spaghetti. I made pasta with a simple sauce. I was their spaghetti auntie for a long time. ❤️

People throwing hate on this recipe when it probably tastes 100% better than those BPA packed cans of Chef Boyardee.

Just thought I'd throw my two cents in about something....

I see a LOT of people going on about how it's cheaper and healthier to get an inexpensive can of pasta sauce (in some areas, be mindful that food isn't the same prices in all regions) or a can of crushed tomatoes to make a pasta sauce on a budget. While I'd agree with you there, it's important to know that for some people even a couple dollars can be difficult to spare. Especially during times when the economy has been bad. Ketchup and margarine/butter are condiments that the average American household typically has in even the barest of fridges. So you might not have the funds to get that dollar can of sauce, but at least you can have the temporary peace of mind of knowing that your kids aren't going to go to bed with empty stomachs. You also need to remember that though this may not be considered a healthy meal, it's still going to give you a good amount of carbs, fat and sugar to provide you with some calories to keep you going which is incredibly important if you're only getting one reliable meal a day.

You can debate June and Honey's eating habits all you want, but at the end of the day there're many who've had to resort to dishes like this to keep their families from going hungry, and as is often the case with dishes originating from hardship it's not uncommon for a poor-man's meal like this to become a sort of comfort food for some folks. Mama June's family is by no means the first to create this meal and they won't be the last to eat it.
