She shares an example of one of the causes of peripheral vision loss, which occurs due to a genetic disorder known as retinitis pigmentosa. She describes how a person with peripheral vision loss is able to see what is right in front of them, but cannot see what is to their sides. It's almost like staring through a straw or a keyhole
