Why Cars Are Built to Make a Crash Last Longer (180°) | Damage Control | WIRED

The aftermath of a car crash looks like absolute chaos, but it's all by design. Impact can take as little as 24 milliseconds, and at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety researchers are constantly testing for ways to make that impact last even longer.

Really not a fan of the vr format, I hope this is not a trend

The 180 degrees is a cool gimmick for like 5 seconds but can you please just show me the whole screen and let me watch the video like a normal civilised human? Cheers

I mean this was a good idea just terribly executed.
Being able to pan the camera around should be a tool used to increase engagement with the content not necessary to enable it.

I wish you could have a semi-control 180° experience. Where you have control over moving the perspective at times -- for instance, it was really cool to be able to move around and zoom during the crash scenes. But to the contrary, having the perspective locked into one position during the interviews/graphics/etc would have made the experience 10, 000 better.

So when every survivor says the classic, “It felt like forever!” They weren’t lying.🤔

When you buy a VR camera system and you don’t know what to film with it:

Oh my god, the VR Is nauseating. Watching this on my phone and every time my heart beats, it shakes the phone slightly. And the camera moves and changes each time it shakes. Please, no more VR format.

vr isn’t great when you just want to lay down in bed while watching informative vid. like this it’s like watching my own ceiling. 😖

I'll watch this when it's re cut without the VR nonsense. It's just shaky and annoying, and really distracting.

Speed doesn't kill people, but suddenly coming to a stop does

I've always been telling myself how modern cars are so delicate and any bump can cause big damage to the body of the car and I just attributed it to companies being greedy trying to decrease the life span of the car so you'd consume more cars in a time period. After seeing this video, I apologize to car companies
😂
