I have met with Col. Richen in Leh at his Restaurant several times in 1988-89, listened to his tales of valour on how he got shot in the leg and yet ordered his troops "Goli Chalo". He was a great host (very popular with the foreigners), and a good rummy player.

Lt Gen Hasnain either bluffing or has forgotten about the 1971 War on the Western Front, where the Indian Army had reached outskirts of Sialkot. I was in Jammu in Dec 1971, and my cousin was an junior Army officer (Lieutenant) in Signals in Jammu (Shakargarh-Chhamb area). His group of fellow officers used to come in the Army Jeep to our house in Jammu after their 48 hours duty was over. One day he brought a bomb shell (of brass) and proudly said that Indian Army has now reached the outskirts of Sialkot. 2 days later he showed us Railway Tickets from Sialkot Railway the cease-fire, Indian Army withdrew to its original position on border, a mistake...another one by Madame Gandhi.

I request Defense veterans to author stories of our brave-hearts describing the terrain, circumstances, enemy attack, our strategy to counter the enemy’s attack, the actual battle/skirmish etc. These should be added in as a separate book starting class 4th. And some media channels should come up with the old quiz culture focussing on bharatiya bhugol, border areas, defense personalities, bravehearts, where they fought, disaster management during calamities, terrorist attacks in Bharat etc.
It is not just interesting but all of these are a NEED-to-know aspects of our own people, our motherland🙏
My generation grew up reading भारत के वीर सपूतों और वीरांगनाओं की जीवनीयाँ, रामायण, महाभारत, कवियों के बारे में व उनका साहित्य में योगदान। and I feel great about the knowledge I acquired. Thanks to our principal who ensured we knew our nation better than learning about the west.
