Your calm reaction to eating a bit of the root did not prepare me for what I experienced when I tried this myself with mine at home, haha! You mentioned a "buzzy" feeling, so I thought I knew what to expect, but when I had a VERY tiny piece, my whole mouth became numb! My husband (who is a doctor), and I both tried it at the same time when preparing my tincture, and we were both just absolutely stunned! It was one of the wildest things we've ever experienced!

I don't use the percentage of alcohol to herb because it doesn't have to be the same each time. I have read that it is more potent to do it that way but I don't think so. I use ground herb or ground root and add enough liquid to blend together and be able to freely manipulate in jar. I have your book, making plant medicine and thorough enjoy the storytelling, helps me to remember.

This is the best video I have found on this subject. I just harvested around 20 Echinacea root crowns that I had been growing for 15yrs. I saw quite a bit of that black color through out the roots and was concerned until I found this video. Thank you so much!

That was fantastic.
I already watched two other videos and those ladies were pretty good - knowledgeable and professional …, but boy you really have it going on.
You know what you’re talking about/ doing. Much more knowledgeable and professional and I really appreciate that.
I’ll be buying your book.
Thank you, so much.❤
PS I love that your wife gives the tincture away 🥰✨🙏

Thank You! I am having quite a learning tincture making and this is a great demonstration in the real methodology. It seems a lot of other herbalists are content to put the fresh herb in bottle and pour alcohol over to cover. I had never known about the measuring for each round, or using blender or about the addition of water (heard that would cause mold or dilute the final product. I have so much to learn lol! ) but am very happy to report good germination with all of the Strictly Medicinal Seeds I have planted so far this year. Thanks so much for teaching & sharing!!

Would you the same ratio 1:2 (75% alcohol - 25% water ) for turmeric tincture?

Hi, can you please tell me what alcohol percent concentration do you recommend for dry root echinacea? I've read 60%, others say 70%. Thank you !

Great insightful video. Thanks. Apologies in advance if you answered this question. What to do with the roots once tincture is extracted? Thanks again

Hi Richo, I wonder if I could ask your advice on something. I’ve heard recently from various sources that the only really useful echinacea is the ‘angustifolia’. This pissed me off a tiny bit as we have been growing purpurea for medicinal purposes...Given that you’re using purpurea here, and you certainly know what you’re doing, are they wrong? I’m interested to hear your thoughts on that, if you have any. Thanks in advance. Big fan of your work btw.

Mine just finished blooming was so thankful for this information …I am wondering if the seeds from the blooms will come up next spring as I have a hard time taking roots because ..well I have attachment issues lol. Well 2 plus 1 is 3 so actually 333 how awesome.

Richo, would this be an appropriate way to clean the thick tangly root mass of valerian root (for drying, not tincturing) as well? Or is there a better way to preserve all the volatile oils. My soil-admiration of your earth there is off the charts right now.
