I plan to go on a vacation in Serbia this summer vacation. I'm an English teacher in China. There are not many books I can find to learn Serbian, so that's why I'm here. There are five months for me to learn this language. I hope I can make daily conversations with the local people when travelling. Now it's winter vacation, a good time to learn.😊

Valid points, I see myself in many aspects. I also underestimated how hard it is to learn a language like Serbian from a new language family (I'm nativ German speaking). With grammar in particular it's not easy to find the balance in the beginning. It's to much to learn but you need a lot in order to speak that people understand what you want so say.

I’m half Serbian and my father always intended teaching me the language however he was never home when I grew up to teach me as he worked far away. Now I’m 14 and I know quite a bit of the language but I’m embarrassed for not being able to speak the language at family events. I speak Spanish and French too but it’s heartbreaking to feel so apart from my culture sometimes. I’d really like to be fluent one day but I have so many subjects already to study in school that I feel guilty for not focusing on when learn Serbian. Have you got any tips about how I could maybe learn the language long term, without it interfering with my school work?

LMAO. I started learning Serbian May 4 and crammed in lots of grammar. Been spending hours everyday. So far I’m enjoying it. Well see how it goes. The pronouns and applying it to words can be confusing at times and a lot to remember the rules but I got my family to test me and I’m pretty good already. I do lots of repetition with practicing correct grammar in my mind.
