Dubstep. Remember that?
Damn, it’s almost like a dirty word these days…
But I remember hearing those early tunes back in 2000ish, and thinking: this is what it must’ve been like to experience hearing those first hip hop records back in the 80s, or those uptempo hardcore/jungle records in the early 90s.
And here’s one of those moments now - a sea change in the musical landscape.
Of course, as with anything as drastically new and different as dubstep, the underground scene quickly exploded, with loads of forward thinking artists and producers experimenting with this sound, including 2 of my absolute favourite early adopters: Scuba (aka Hotflush Recordings founder Paul Rose) and Jamie Teasdale (one half of the industrial dubstep duo Vex’d).
Welcome to Diamond in the Rough; the series where we unearth the tracks that got missed, skipped or long forgotten.

Think this has been my favourite one so far. It's swinging so much, can't tell if it's in 6/8 or half time 4/4. Lol.
