i think the neat thing about this game is that it moreso tests your sight reading if anything, which can get challenging but is pretty fun to attempt lol

My girlfriend spent her highschool in drumline, and won a bunch of awards for it. She had no problem with the measures where it plugged way more notes into a single measure than you'd expect. Apparently this is basically a game they'd do, where the lead plays some weird measure or two and everyone else had to repeat it.

as of a year ago, someone managed a score of 63

When I was in band our director, as a bit of a joke, once gave us a version of the Mission: Impossible theme, usually notated in 5/8, that was for some unholy reason notated in 4/4, meaning it was "oops all quintuplets". I fesl like that sheet music would have given you a stroke.

Man it's comforting as a percussionist seeing people struggle with what I would consider a warmup. It eases my worries about my skills, knowing that even if I am bad, I'm still better than the average person. It's also very funny

Dear Diary, today I learnt that putting 5 notes in a 4/4 measure can break someone.

i like this one because it’s less a rhythm game strictly and more a music game if that makes sense? like it’s sightreading rhythms but not a rhythm game. if you stop thinking about it as a rhythm game it improves

this is pretty interesting here. I thought this would just be really high speed rythme, that you couldn't really follow as a human. instead it just is some wierd ass beats, that you wouldn't expect as a rythme game player. what is funny about it is that, as a "musician", and someone that plays a lot in orchestra, I can confirm that this IS the types of beats that can actually happen, and way more often that you may think. you're right, it isn't a rythme game anymore, it is a "real life orchestra beat counting simulator". This isn't fun, because it dirreclty is from something that people practice for years before mastering it. we're way past the cute little game wrere you have to roughly follow the sheet, this is real exercise for people that do music for job, desguised as a rythme game x)

I used to study music. The 5 notes in a 4 tempho is a quintola, where you have to fit five quarter notes in a 4 space, so you have to do it faster.

Similarly the 3s are triolas, where you have to usually fit 3 eights in a single quarter note

One of the worst rythm exercises we had at school was punching triolas with one hand and normal eights with the other hand.

This is how sight reading/ear training courses work, at least in part. You turn to a random page in your book, you might get about 15 seconds to preread, and then you have to perform the rhythm and/or melody. Some of them get REALLY hairy, including tuplets inside of tuplets. They're also usually about 20 bars.

My dude mentioned a roguelike rhythm game and I was like "Huh, that'd be a pretty neat concept." Then I remembered Crypt of the NecroDancer and Cadence of Hyrule exist.

calling it "no longer... a rhythm game" as soon as a quintuplet appeared is kinda wild

There is no max score. It eventually just randomly cycles levels at faster tempos with more punishing combo/life meter depletion

I saw someone else do a perfect run of this and it’s actually impossible to win. They went all the way up to level 39 and despite not missing a single note up until that point, the fact that the meter kept going down at all times meant that the game’s timer forced them to quit.

Me and all the other drummers watching our life’s work playing odd tuplets and 32nd notes be trashed

Honestly, I’m glad people still acknowledge Louie’s beautiful work. For a video/game made in 2023, I’m surprised it still holds up today!

Now change the time signature to 7/8, and then switch things up every couple level to 11/8 or 31/16 to make it an even more hellish experience
